Which gun would you buy?

I have been looking at a new 17 HMR and I have narrowed it down to 3. I am looking at the CZ452 Varmit, Marlin 917VSF, and the Ruger K77/17-VMBBZ. I was wondering if anyone has shot these guns side by side or have shot more than one of them. I am wondering what kind of accuracy to expect out of each one on avg. without alot of extra work. Also what you liked and disliked about them. I guess what I am looking for is everyone with experiance with these guns to let me know the good, bad, and the ugly on them. Any info. on them would be appreciated.

ive shot both the cz and ruger and i like and bought the cz but bother were nice though.

the marlin look real nice though!!!!

I have had nothing but extremely accurate (MOA) rifles from Savage, and I really have learned to love the accutrigger.

CZ are shooters too, but I am just not a firm believer in the world market right now.

For the money, quality, and accuracy, I have never felt I have went wrong with a Savage.JMO

am a gun dealer and would agree with larry, the savage shoots excellent out of the box-the accu-trigger is a real plus, have sold all, shot the ruger-marlin, also an anshutz- did not shot the cz- are nice gun-guy that got it does not shoot em-just buys em... personally prefer the savage, the ruger shot least well, but still an accurate rifle... seems more interest now in the mach-17 than the hmr, still have a centerfire .17 too, but a different gun...

I have shot the Ruger and the Savage, Savage is what I bought not because of the cheaper price tag either. My rifle has the heavy bull barrel and I promise you any squirrel that shows me his head at 100yds is in the pot. I would recommend the spitzer bullet for anything you would care to eat, those polymar tips really blow stuff up.

If you have the means, I would recomend the Ruger,
Its a Rifle, that your Grand Children, will pass down to your Great Grand Children, that is if we are still a free Country then.

if you want to go with a gun other than what you stated i would go with ever yone else. savage is amazing. i have a model 12 stainless in 308 cal and it is easy to hit moa with it. acu is very nice!! but the price will bite a bit.

I'm sure the other guns you have mentioned are nice, but this would be a gun that you would pass on for generations.

several are american made... depends what you want and like, the anschutz costs at least twice what the other makes cost, was well over a $1,000 dealer price several yrs. back, but still felt for shooting the savage was the best rifle, course beauty in the eye of the beholder, have one of the 1st 10-22s ever built, ruger is very dependable, others too...

Glad to see a gun dealer on here. I have a question for you. We have the Savage 17 HMR....LOVE IT!! Accurate as heck even at 130 yards, knock the eyeball right out of a ground hog, no joke! Bull Bore, 5 shot clip, bolt action with a scope. ....My question is, why, even though I have oiled the heck out of it, it rusts before my very eyes? As soon as I take it out of the case, and head for the field, it starts to rust as if the blueing wasn't applied correctly!?!

not sure, would make certain no moisture in the case, might try something that is a rust inhibitor-preventative, would not over-oil, sometimes better to leave case unzipped a bit, assume this is just surface rust, is it all over the gun or.... would clean it well, get all off of it-dry and than start over, if nothing else contact savage and see what they might suggest... I have that same rifle and no problem... sure someone on here that can help too....

Yup, just surface rust, but all over the gun. I take it out of the case, walk through the field, and watch it rust. No moisture in the case at all. I'll try and call them. Thanks for your help!

you can go to savage firearms on-line and get information, believe they no longer respond to e-mails, but will have phone numbers-hours etc.... hope they can help... would try a total cleaning and than rust inhibitor as well...

I've shot the Marlin super accurate rifle. Never shot the Ruger in this caliber but have owned a lot of Rugers like them awful well.
You can't go wrong either way. Good luck!!!!

I had a Marlin Bolt Action .22 Mag once, I wish I had kept it, that was a Super Accurate Rifle.
The only thing that I didnt like about it, was the pertruding magazine.
Other than that, it was a good gun.

I had a Marlin .17. Accurracy was OK but not great.I just bought a Cz 22 and there's no comparison between that and a Marlin.The CZ is by far a nicer rifle.The triggers are terrible on both but the CZ's can be lighted up alot easier and cheaper than the Marlin.

Well I shot a ruger and a marlin. After trying them out the ruger was pretty but wasn't even close to the marlin in accuracy. For the price you would think the ruger would be more accurate. The guys at the gun shop said they have not found a real accurate ruger yet and they have shot a few. So the ruger is definantly out. They did highly recommend a savage 93r17 thou. Has anyone tinkered with one of those?

You definately need to shoot a Savage and see what you think. They are nice. I have a 93R17 heavy barrell with thumb-hole laminated stock. It's a tack driver. Will shoot pretty impressive groups, off the bench.
I had an older one, without the accu-trigger. It shot decent, but I never cared for the trigger. The accu-trigger is very nice and is adjustable. I also have a Marlin which shoots fine, but the Savage will out shoot it.
I've never shot a CZ, but heard good things about them. In my opinion, you can't beat the Savage for accuracy and price.

I think Thompson Center is making 17 barrel for the encore/pro hunter series. TC are great guns, not to mention you can buy interchangeable barrels if you decide you want a larger caliber or black powder. Just another thought.

I had a savage, but i hated it. The accu-trigger on mine was JUNK. I dont wanna start a fight, i think mine was just a bad one. It would fire anywhere from .5 lbs. pressure up to 6 lbs. pressure, and was different every time. I got rid of that and got a NEF single shot .17 HMR and it is a really nice gun, built well and wasnt all that expensive. I shoot the CCI TNT bullets, and can clover leaf at 100Yds from the bench. Its a nice combo, and a heck of a varmint round, just dont use it on anything you wanna eat, it tears the flesh apart badly.
