gyp

is scared of fireworks & thunder. But shoot a gun & she is lookin' up like where is it, where is it. She knows a storm is coming long before we do, she is out going nuts & running circles.

To me this a major problem with hounds today. Most not all are gun shy. I take a can with bb's to the pens even with them still sucking and shake the can as I feed each night. Then when they are about 2 months old I shoot a 22 pistol while feeding.I cull very hard on shyness, I have a litter of blue's 8 weeks old and not any are gun shy. They don't jump or run into the doghouse. By time I start taking them on trips to the woods they have heard gun fire 1000's of times. I slam dog box doors, rattle feed pans anything that will make a noise. My hounds know that if I shoot a into a tree they are ready to jump on a coon and finish it off.
My rules are simple to stay here or join the pasture crew
1) Not gun shy
2) Not mean(tree,box pen)
3) Tree the game I train them on(coon, bobcat, bear)
4) Stay treed until I get there(10 minutes or 3 hrs)

I look for a pup that has sense, nose, mouth, but up most the drive and breeding to hunt, in other words the want too please, I have found out these are mush easyer to train as there is natural born with hunt bred into them.
