hole situation

I was wondering what rule or opinions are on this deal.. Say you have a 4 dog cast one dog barks enough to get struck in and another dog about twenty five yards barks enough to get struck in the first dog picks up its head and goes to 2nd dog the other two dogs don't bark the 3 minutes catches them the other 2 didn't put in. They didn't produce a rabbit the non hunting judge says lets go look for a hole. How can you not minus them dogs for not producing a rabbit. You can go anywhere here in Missouri and find a hole or a place of refuge. That is the way some does it in Missouri so they won't have any minuses. I don't believe this is right but would like others opinions and especially Todd Morgans.

Non hunting judge says he knows it didn't go in a hole but that was the rules to go look for a hole. Don't believe they should be allowed to go look for a hole if they don't produce a rabbit.

I say if they make good forward progress and breakdown then you look for a hole. But if they just open enough to get struck in and don't make progress, then they don't deserve a hole. I think this might go back to the common sense thing. But some people will do anything to win.

?

I say the rabbit has to be produced before you apply the hole rule.

The rule says in the case of RUNNING a rabbit to a hole or place of refuge. I won't even go look for a hole if they don't "run" the rabbit. A bark or two doesn't get it in my book

Place of Refuge

Saturday during the NHBA section al in West Virginia, I minused my own dog as he only barked 5-6 times and he ended up under and old fallen down building. Granted there are many baby rabbits this time of year as well as other scenarios that could have played out in this situation. The cast did not understand why I minused him. I told them that the rabbit wasn't produced and had not been runnable by the majority of the pack, thus I run the 3 minutes in which he did not stay under the old building. Right or wrong I did not feel right to have circled his points in this scenario so I give him 100 minus. I know many would question this call if they were in the same situation.

agree with all except one

See that rule used to be the case but at the eliminator couple of years ago a dog ran a track by itself and had the rabbit and lost because of that rule. It was a two dog cast other minus out or got scratched forget do not know, so under the old rule both dogs would have to be able to run it. The other hound struck in but did not bark after that. So the other guy brought up the rule about being able to be run by the majority of the pack even though rabbit was seen I think maybe that was a kicker in getting this rule changed. Just think about it if your hound was out there and ran a rabbit and was seen by the judge and the cast members but you could not get credit for it because the other hound could not run it is that fair? So from what I understood from what i heard of it is why punish a hound that can run a track that another can not. Now one more thing the pack is considered the struck in hounds not the hounds in the cast meaning if there is three dogs struck in on the old rule then two of them had to be able to run it. Now the way it is set up one dog can run it and as long as he /she is making forward progress, and is not determined to be off game or babbling then you have to score it accordingly. Holes, splits, all dirty things, but vote on it, have a rule book, and do what is right according to the rules. Thanks for reading

Gary

how 'bout this situation?

weekend when not much is movin, dog hits on 2 dif. rabbits that are squatted only few feet from hole? other dogs didnt get near the spot, the rabbit dives in. the dog only had enough distance to get 3-4-5- barks in and then the hole. that dog ran it as far as possible and hunted hard enough on the steep side hill where the others didnt bother to go.. he did more than the other dogs and lost both casts ebcause he hunted the hardest and ran 2 rabbits?
