Newbie needs advice
I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but this seems like the best place to turn to. I am new to coon hunting and just bought a 7 year old blutick male. I have seen this dog hunt before I got him. Now he wont hunt I put him on a hot track last night and he barked twice and came back to me and just sat down and wined. He has had diarea since i got him but the owner siad he always has. Any advice would be greatly apprecitaed. I been trying to train a pup with him. The pup is better than him. please help. He was eatin alot of grass last night.
I would get him checked out at the vets.Regardless of what the owner told you it is not common for a hound to have diarea all the time.Something is wrong,it could be a number of things so have him checked out instead of trying to guess what it is.

I agree with Pappy. Hes not gonna hunt well if he doesnt feel well. Good luck with your dog.

If I had a nickel for every beginner that bought a pup, and then a "trainer" to train the pup.......I would be a rich man.
I have yet to hear a success story like this though.
I have trained many pups without a "trainer" if the pup has it in em it will come out.....Good pup trainers are very rare, IMO your much better off hunting a pup alone...
no healthy dog always has diarea this dog probably has an internal infection or a heavy dose of worms coming back and whining sounds like the hound is in pain have him checked out by a vet

I totally agree with Pappy and Wayne. It isn't normal for anyone or anything to have diarrhea constantly, especially at his age. I'd take it to the Vet as soon as you can.

If they eat alot of grass it means they have an upset stomach.Worms, change of diet,or stress can all cause this.Hit the worms first then go from there.

The diarhea is what I would be worried about. As far as the hunting I would not worry about that until I had hunted with him at least several more times. My dog that I have now was four and a half when I got him and it took him about four or five nights of hunting with me before he would go out and hunt. The first few nights he would just walk around with me and whenever I would stop he would come stand by me. After a few nights he just up and went out hunting and has hunted good ever since. Just has to get comfortable with you.
Did you change brands of feed cold turkey? Some dogs cant handle changing from one to another over night. just to be safe though take him to the vet asap.
