I hate leaves too. Still no leaves in my area and got some snow the other night too. I'm also fortunate to hunt in an aspen forest. Aspen have few branches and a tight crown with leaves concentrated at the top. You can find a coon in an aspen most of the time in the summer. Now the oak trees are another story.

I agree as well. It seems this year they came on all at once, they weren't there one night then the next night the trees are full of them.

that's why

The big hunts need to be when the leaves are off.

The bad thing about it is... many many many people use leaves as an excuse... if your dog has a coon then more than likely leaves or not you will find it.

And I think they look better in the summer time with leaves on.I hardly ever see a coon look in the winter. They are trying to be still and not move..With leaves on they feel safe and will look at ya..I THINK!

the leaves arent the problem with me its the dang green briars.

You got that right jack!
Four handlers looking, squalling? I honestly believe those four will find 90 % that are on the outside.

Yep, leaves come with the territory. If you're goin to hunt, it's part of the game. If the coon's there, you'll find him most of the time

Posted by jaiman on 05-13-2008 03:21 AM:

they will look!

Most of the time they will look, I agree. It's when there is a smaller tree with a fewer leaves it gets too easy for the tree to get circled, when it's pretty obvious it's slick. Just the way it is sometimes, I still enjoy the hunts regardless. I'ts the dang gas prices that are ruining the hunts.

I love it when someone says that the coons my dog trees look easier than theres... I heard that 3-4 times last summer and thought I was going to lose my lunch I laughed so hard.
