Hsus Attacking Virginia Hunting Dog Owners

Take Action to Restrict Hound Hunting in Virginia

Dear Friend,

A declining number of states still allow the hunting of wildlife with packs of dogs, and this inhumane and unsporting practice is currently under scrutiny in Virginia. Hound hunters chase bears, deer, raccoons, and other wildlife to exhaustion or corner them in a tree and shoot them down for sport or trophies. Many hunters fit the dogs with GPS collars, and simply follow the radio signal on a handheld device to locate a trapped animal after the dogs do all the work. And dogs who fail to hunt well are sometimes abandoned. The practice provokes the ire of landowners, outdoor enthusiasts, animal welfare advocates, and hunters alike. You can help!

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is considering stricter regulations and your voice is urgently needed.

TAKE ACTION
Take a moment to send a message to the members of the Hunting With Hounds Stakeholder Advisory Committee, letting them know that using large packs of dogs to chase, harass, and kill wildlife no longer has a place in Virginia and should be restricted. Please tell your friends and family in Virginia how they can help, too.

Shelby COunty SPorting Dog & Agriculture Alliance

We are holding our organizational meeting 20 May in Center, Texas because of looming HSUS threats from a local group. We've had a HUGE response of hunter, farmer, ranchers signing up to attend our meeting. I'm going to use your post as one of our handouts at the meeting. I'm one of the speakers on our agenda, I'll be sure to mention the much appreciated advisory support we've received from VHDA. We'll be requesting "Seed funds" for our organization & depending upon how much is donated, I'll suggest sending your organization a donation. Be assured, our hopes and wishes for success are with VHDA.

I have read about at least a few shelters closing down. If only they spent the money running "Humane Shelters" instead of running us down. Keep us informed, because they won't stop in Virginia.

HSUS doesn't have a problem with animals hunting children, just with us hunting animals!

What most people don't realize, is that in these "barbaric un-civilized" hunting competitions for show and trophies, the game is almost never caught or injured. So the dogs chase them to a tree, that is no different then their natural predators do. At least we don't go out shooting for sport and leaving carcasses laying around everywhere like many hunters do during deer season.

Another thing they like to focus on is the "packs of dangerous savage animals" we hunt. Responsible hound owners dogs are better trained and more even tempered than most lap dogs and designer dogs these days. I worked for a vet for 5 yrs, I was NEVER bit or injured by a hound. I can't even remember all the times I had a jack russell, chihuahua, cocker spaniel, shih tzu, or other tiny breed bite me or act like a nut. It was a normal weekly occurance.

HSUS pushes for every dog to be licensed and collared, so what's the deal complaining about a GPS system? This allows hunters to FIND their dogs so they aren't abandoned.

I used to volunteer at our animal shelter and help with their yearly fundraisers and drives. When they changed management it turned into a crusade against responsible pet owners pretty much and we quit. My last visit there I was told we are the problem, "people like us" who let their un-neutered male dogs roam the country side hunting down innocent creatures...blah, blah, blah.
