Buckeye Bird Down!

Had a GOOD Morning!
Quick run down on this hunt,
We got in the woods at about 10 till 6:00. No gobbling what so ever so we try an owl hoot. Got a response and made are way closer to the gobbler. He started gobbling on his own and had a couple buddies going too, but they were deeper. We decided to try and get onto this one hill that we have seen them strut on and as we get to this spot he gobbles...we look up and there he is sitting in a small tree not far at all. Thought we were busted so we backed up a little and sat next to a tiny tree. I let out a couple of my own mouth calls and he hammered back! I popped in a mouth call then and my dad started stratching some leaves up this got him really going!
I turned on the shakes about now...I was getting nervous.
Well it's just after shooting light and he starts turning up the gobbling and it ready to come down. I was still talking to him slightly but not much since he was so interested I didn't want to over do it.
Well he pitched down right at 40 yards to my left.
My safety clicks off.
He started puffing up and my dad scratched up a few more leaves and he started to my right and closing in.
I gave him a couple clucks, Gobbled right back!
He stops and I move the scope to him... He steps forward into some brush.
Then a hen to our right starts calling to him, he takes another step towards her, he's out of the brush.
My Red Dot is burning bright and I take the 25 Yard shot.

Looks like we got,
9 1/4" Beard
1" Spurs - kind of Wide/thick for some reason.
Weight - Haven't done that yet, but no more then 20lbs I don't think.

One Happy Hunter here! Now I've got to get my dad a bird!
Another Pic and maybe more to come!

I LOVE Diaphragm Calls!

Just got this guy this morning, well my dad did!

We nearly walked right under a flock. They shouldn't have been where they were but we couldn't get them to gobble this morning to know for sure of where they were.
We scrambled to set up, just maybe 40 yards from them. We were able to set a Hen Decoy out though. It's getting light and nothing is talking. I hit the AlumiWitch with a couple tree yelps and the closest bird gobbles back, he's right on a lower limb puffing up trying to strut on it.
It's full light now and I'm talking to myself on the mouth call and it's starting to get the hens going. Soon I can hear walking around behind me, on my dad's right. He's tells me their coming my way, but then I hear the putts. Soon then come around to my left and I can see two red heads. They wanted that decoy bad! They kept coming a little closer and then backed off and went into a field. But they were only maybe 10 yards behind that tree we were at, but no shots.
So I keep calling to the one up on the limb and soon the hens start coming down. Scared the crap out of my actually, because one flew down right by our tree, leaves flew up and hit me, man she was close. Soon we have a cluster of half a dozen hens at 20 yards.
Then the limb hanger flys down, down into a dip where my dad can't see him. I look out into the field and here comes that duo from earlier, I tell my dad "out in the field". They were walking fast and I was trying to get them to slow down and stop but they wanted that flock of hens that just flew down. The one in the back had a little bit bigger beard and Boom! He was done for!
Looks like I might keep the bragging rights though.
9" Beard
7/8 or so Spurs
17-18 Pound guess.

We got two more tags so we'll see what happens!
Thanks for all the replies everyone!
Pete, You need to get out there! Tons of fun to be had while out there!
Ed Mauney, That CB Magazine should be hitting the mail boxes soon, can't wait to see the Article!
ysudep2, I know what you mean about Tag costs. They keep going up, but never down.

Good Luck to you guys that are going this year!

My dad just tagged out this morning at 9:30. We had three Toms give us the hang up right off the roost and we went after some more that we were guessing on.
I hit the Alumiwitch, nothing. Got closer and hit two CLucks with it and Bam Gobbled right back. We barely had time to sit down before they started coming. BRight Red Heads just bobbing! Well they too hung up 50-60 yards, another Trio with good beards.
They left then and we made our move and went down into a bottom like spot and called they answered and came only to maybe 100 yards no more. My dad used a Gobble call and they were ticked! Thought another gobbler had their hot hen! Again they rushed in and closed to 35 yards on my dad's left. They were getting ready to leave and I told him to shoot.
1 1/4 Spurs! 10 Beard! 20lbs!
Pic to follow!
