Score this - NH Scenario

Thought this might be a good one for you guys to have fun with. I'm sure most won't have a problem with it but it does have an interesting little twist that might throw some for a little loop.

After your done with this one, I've got another.

Three (3) dog cast. All dogs are struck and treed; tree is scored. All dogs are lead away from the tree and recast. Dogs A & B are restruck and go to the previously scored tree. Handlers leash the dogs and head back to re-release their dogs. While their dogs are still on the lead dog C is struck and treed in one breath. Coon is seen.

Score it and explain why you scored it that way.

Posted by Chris Sterrett on 04-10-2008 03:32 PM:

I will say C has +175.

I would think that dog couldn`t get struck for 100 if other two dogs on leash.

For some reason and I dont know why. I'm gonna say 150+

Posted by Christy on 04-10-2008 03:43 PM:

ACTUALLY CHRIS, I COULD BE WRONG, BUT THE OTHER TWO DOGS STRUCK AND WENT BACK TO A PREVIOUSLY SCORED TREE.

SO THEIR POINTS GOT DELETED/STRUCK THROUGH.

SINCE C HADNT BEEN CAUGHT YET AND THAT TREED HAD ALREADY BEEN SCORED AND CLOSED, C'D HAVE TO COME IN FOR 100 FOR STRIKE AND 125 FOR TREE.

I SAY DOG C IS 225+ UP OF WHATEVER THE SCORE WAS FROM THE 1ST TREE.

BUT, A & B STILL SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECAST BACK TO DOG C PER THIS RULE AND ALLEN DIDNT TELL US WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT, SO WHO KNOWS WHO SHOULD HAVE WHAT

"Dog cannot receive plus or minus strike points if he is not on trail when first dog is declared treed unless he trees on separate tree. However, he may receive tree points if he trees within five minutes. Dogs that strike must be declared struck and recorded by Judge."

OK. I'M CONFUSED NOW! LOL.

Wow, that is a tricky one.

My first thought is that C is struck in for 50 since A&B were struck for 100/75 and are still on the leash.

However, since A&B ended up on a previously scored tree, technically they never had any strike points awarded on that and aren't occupying any strike positions when Dog C is struck. That makes all strike positions open, except that no dog can recieve 100 strike points if another dog is on the leash.

I always like to go back to common sense of what a coondog should do and do it within the rules. Dog C did what a dog ought to do, he did not return to a previous tree and he went on to tree another coon. The rules are very clear we can't give him 100 strike points because dogs are still on the leash. But we can give him 75. 75 and 125 on tree gives him 200+ on that last tree.

i'm going with 175+

Dogs A and B were struck and treed on a prev. scored tree and even those though points were deleted. Those dogs were never recast so I'm thinking Dog C can only be struck in for 50....had they been recast he could have been struck in for 100.

This is going to be fun to see the different explanations and UKC's official interpretation....keep em coming.

Dog was struck in 3rd place 50, then treed on seperate tree for 125. So score would be +175. Other dogs have to be led into to tree on leash to be scored.

Posted by Christy on 04-10-2008 04:11 PM:

OKAY, HERE’S MY RETHINK.

ON THE 1ST TURN LOOSE ALL WERE STRUCK AND TREED AND SCORED.

ON THE 2ND TURN LOOSE ALL DOGS WERE TURNED LOOSE AGAIN. A & B STRUCK AND WENT BACK TO THE SAME TREE. SO THEY GOT 0 POINTS FOR THAT.

WHILE THEY WERE COMING BACK TO RECAST THEIR DOGS IN WHICH C IS STILL OUT, DOG C STRIKES IN AND TREES. SINCE A & B ARE STILL ON LEAD HE CANNOT COME IN FOR 100, SO HE HAS TO COME IN FOR 75 ON STRIKE AND 125 TREE. THE COON IS SEEN. SO HIS SCORE IS 200+

DOG A & B DIDNT GET ANYTHING OFF THAT COON BECAUSE THEY WERE ON THE LEAD!

YOU CANNOT SCORE DOGS ON THE LEAD ON A COON! IF YOU COULD, THEN EVERYONE WOULD WALK AROUND FIND A COON UP A TREE, LEAD THEIR DOGS UP TO IT AND BAM, THERE'S A SCORED TREE LETS GO TO THE NEXT.

My answer is +125 no dog can receive any strike points unless all dogs are cast!Rule 3-D is the twist. No dog can receive plus or minus unless he was already struck and trees on a seperate tree.Strike points are deleted.

Ok, I am going with a and b were struck in, but since the cast knew it was the same tree went and grabbed the dogs, then at that point strike was deleted. 100 is open.

I am gonna

say he would get 225+ cause those dogs went to a previous scored tree and their strike should be deleted or have a line drawn through it and Dog C struck and treed before other were released so that is my guess Dog C gets +225

Didnt he tree on a separate tree?

TBAKER...YES HE DID TREE ON A SEPERATE TREE.

BUT HE STILL CANNOT REVIEVE 100+ STRIKE POINTS BECAUSE WHEN HE WAS DECLARED TREED, A & B WERE BOTH STILL ON THE LEAD.

dog c will get a total score of 125+ all dogs must be released to get strike points so you have to draw a line through the strike points no matter what they are . then he gets the coon all to him self .

in most cases the handlers of dogs a and b would vote to call time out as soon as the judge and themselves get to the previously scored tree any way so in most cases the dog would be struck and treed during time out .......... jmo
