Ok Fellow Coon Hunters, How Do You Do It?

Alright guys, how do you deal with ignorant neighbors? My neighbor had the audactiy to come over this morning and complain about our dogs barking. Now I'm not saying they don't bark at all, but they are not a noise nucense. I wouldn't own noisy dogs. I guess I just don't understand how she can come over here and complain about our dogs, when hers sit and bark constantly all day long? They've called the dog warden once on us already, and the dog warden kinda looked at us like "why is she calling?" So I guess I want to know how you would handle this situation? I don't want to be an @$$hole of a neighbor, because that's not in my nature, but when you act like that really irritates me.

Explain to her that her dog annoys you but you do not want to cause trouble. but if she continues to press the issue then complaints will come from your side of the fence.

Make her a nice coonskin cap.

That should make everything ok.

LMAO or a nice pomeranian hand warmer!

But seriously we've been more than polite about the whole issue. Like I said before, I don't want to be the neighbor that everyone hates, but I guess you treat them the way they treat you. As for the bark collars, we have one shock collar and one bark collar. i don't know what y'all do about pups barking, but I don't want my pup scared to bark at anything, so she gets limited use on the bark collar. I guess i'll have to do what John D said and move. Pretty bad when you live in the country and still have problems w/neighbors like that, especally when you live next to a really noisy farm! LOL

Sorry For you!

That really sux... we are SO lucky here. We're about and hour from Boston and an hour from Providence... not the country but city folk THINK it is...LOL... I was just sitting here listening to my bluedawg sing and the 3 bassetts next door...if I'm outside I can hear some little mini dachshounds(sp) yapping away thru the roosters I have crowing away... the rhodesian ridgebacks across the street here and there, crows, orchard sprayers, gunshots, turkeys... some traffic.... and i get worried about the new homes out back of us soon to be built. Big pricey homes and city folk...moving to "the country" will buy them... Could be the end of our Heaven. We'll move before we'd get rid of our dogs. If the rooster have to go...they will but not the dogs... or the neighbors dogs.... If it got bad we'd move FOR our dogs as would the bassett people....

Might be a good market for the Pom Handwarmers! man, that would be soft and warm! LOL...
I hope your problem works out...neighbors can be worth their weight in Gold or... Garbage....
Good Luck! Heather

Try squirting them with the hose... it took my young one's a few weeks to learn, but now they are very kennel minded dogs and barely make a sound...

you could always tell her that with hounds, it is a work in progress and you are working with your dogs on the problem daily (squirting them with the hose).

no shock collar

dont do the barking shock collar. You dont want the dog to be afraid to bark when he's hunting so you cant punish it for barking. Just try talking with the neighbor in a nice way. Maybe that will work

i sorta have the same situation. i live in town and there are people that call the cops on me everyday complaining about my dogs and they're not even mine barking. i live next to a kennel full of chow chows that bark consistantly and plenty of other dogs that bark none stop.. the cop uses the excuse ( well he lives behind me across a field) that he used to coon hunt with hounds when he was younger so when the neighbors hear a longer bark he just knows its those dam hounds of mine. i just laugh cause he is at my house almost every week, and he still doesn't realize the town i live in is obsessed with huskys and what husky can't howl?? so i just look at him like he is retarded cause i have a lab/husky that barks just like a hound!! it also don't help both of my neighbors just had babies.... i want to MOVE!!!

We're going to move. WAAAAAYYYY out in the sticks. My terriers get blamed for every bit of barking in the area. All but two are inside at night, those two are quiet. It's getting real old.

Like someone mentioned above.. Moving is going to be about the only thing.. Unless you can sit down and have a talk with them to find out what the real problem is..

We have gone round and round with our neighbor.. From complaints if we get home later then 8pm to warming our vehicles up at 6am on our way to work in the winter time..

I have paid one fine for barking dogs and they all wear bark collars now.. After more complaints and the dog warden themselves can see the dogs obviously aren't barking they told the neighbors unless they have proof, don't bother calling them..

Our last incident was me leaving on a trip at 3am a Saturday morning.. Our neighbor lives about 100 yards away.. He started yelling at me for starting my truck.. Words were thrown at each other (I have no problem standing up for myself) and he threatened the dogs... Well... My boyfriend was out of town working at the time, but his father caught wind of it... I wasn't there for what all was exchanged, but the neighbor hasn't said a dang thing since and I got a Christmas card from them Apparently we have come to an understanding...

The dogs were never the issue, they were using them as an excuse because, we being hunters, upset their little bubble they have lived in.. they figured picking on the dogs was the best way to get rid of us..

Barking

Our nearest neighbor is almost a mile away in one direction and 2mi in the other all the land is owned by the nat. gas co (wont be any building homes in this area ....the hounds can bark all they want....See a lot of Wildlife... nearest tar road is 3mi away..My lane is 3/4 mi from a dirt township rd.. I know how you feel about barking as when I was working ... we lived in town but had no trouble with the neighbors made it clear I would sell to a family...the more kids they had the cheaper the the house would be...

Been having having the same problem, and others, for years. People
around here can't ever mind their own business. Got fed up
and quit several years ago but couldn't take it and got
dogs again. Around here there's nowhere to move where
the dogs can bark and still be able to drive to my job. I'm
sick of city people moving to the country and thinking everything
and everbody should be the way THEY think it should be.

it's kinda reassuring that i'm not the only one that has crappy neighbors. Maybe I should give them a taste of thier own medicine.

If you have a video camera take a movie of her dogs barking and show it to her. Then keep it for evidence.

Well I went thru the same thing with my neighbors. The only way to really take care of it is be NICE to them. Not kiss their rears but be nice.I neighbor is an animal rights activist. She has called the dog warden the local police, and even tried to muzzle my hounds one time. But I just told them.Hey they are dogs and dogs bark. And there is nothing you can do.And since then it has been ok.Every once in awhile she tries to get grumpy. But I just look at her and say Good Day.

When I lived in town the lady next door had 2 yorkies that came by my kennels every morning when they let them out to pee. My dogs would bark at them every morning. The lady on the other side of them bitched all the time about it. I told the police if i could shoot what was making them bark I could fix the problem. Then next day I took pictures of the little devils barking through the wire making mine bark. Took the pictures to the cop and had a little town meeting that night. Never a complaint after that.

well we can do one of two things......lol..

lets take your neighbor coon hunten with us....lol...

or we can turn a coon loose in her house and see who the first person is that she calls for help....

i knew a ladie that had BAD problems with a neighbor callen the law every day saying her dogs were barking...so the ladie moved to texas...a month after she was gone she got a ticket in the mail for dogs barking....there wasent a dog one left on that lot for over a month....the law had all kinds of trouble explaning that one......

Been there, done that, have the fence,

My neighbor is a bitch, flat out. she has a cocker that barks every time it is outside, she has about a dozen cats well maybe a half dozen, apparently they taste like coon..lol
She call animal control on me at least 3 times a summer and calls DNR about 2-3 times every fall. She dont like me, she dont like my dogs, or the coon skins and deer I hang in the front yard.
You dont have to worry too much about the barking it sounds like your dogs dont bark that much anyway, mine only bark at feeding time, when I get home and when I go to get them for huntin, Im not sure about where you live but here we dont have a noise ordinance so I dont have to worry about it.
But if you get a chance take a photo of her dogs if they ever come in your yard or are in the road. Trust me it will come in handy when your neighbor calls animal control the next time..LOL trust me
