YOU'LL NEVER KNOW TILL YOU DO.
OUR COPPER DOG WAS 3 YEARS OLD AND HAD NEVER BEEN ON THE RIG UNTIL ONE NIGHT WHEN WE WERE HUNTING WE CAUGHT THIS MAN'S REDBONE DOG, AND IT WAS SKIN AND BONES, LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN LOST FOR A MONTH, WE PUT IT IN OUR DOG BOX, A FULL BED, AND IT WAS MEAN, SO WE WERE JUST GOING TO GO A COUPLE OF MILES TO MEET HIM SO WE THREW COPPER ON THE DOG BOX. HE LOOKED LIKE HE'D BEEN DOING IT ALL HIS LIFE. WELL, WE RIGGED HIM AND HE STRUCK TWICE, TURNED HIM LOOSE 1ST TIME TREED A COON, THEN HE STRUCK AGAIN, AND HE HAD A BEAR TRACK THAT TIME.
WE RIGGED HIM OFTEN, AND HE BECAME ONE OF OUR PACK'S BEST RIG/STRIKE DOGS.

EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
Any dog that will strike a coon will strike from the rig as long as they're comfortable being up there.

Just all 'round , meat gettin' hounds.
Try hunting him with another rig dog. It helps them pick it up quicker. I have found some dogs will pick up rigging really easy and others never seem to pick it up.
Another thing to try is roading, I have seen some dogs that would road well and not rig too.
