In case you heard the screaming.....
Anybody within 24 miles of Birdy, Ky may have heard some loud high pitch screams around high noon on Saturday. Don't worry Tippy Thompson is OK. A highly trained professional coonhunter was able to pull the coon off of him. (This time we didn't end up in the hospital. Last time my partner received a few stitches and a series of painful shots. But he wasn't as quick as Tippy. Thats a another whole different story though.) The first bad decision was made by Tippy when he decided to remove the coon from the trap and lead it with a slightly defective coon catcher. It usually works fine when you keep the pleirs in the right place. The second near fatal decision was made by my 12 year old beagle. She attempted to sniff the large boar coon who appeared to be all jacked up on steroids. Tippy did his best to save the old gal, then it got a nice hold on Tippy's blue jeans. Being a highly trained professional coon hunter with alot of experience in such situations I began to pull the catcher and the coon off of my little bald headed buddy. Then the jeans began to rip. The coon obviously had some snapping turtle or pit bull blood in his three generation pedigree. (Reminded me of the over size boar coon that got out of the trap and came inside my driver side window when I was going down the highway. Thats another story though. I should have had a lower insurance deductable) The next thing that happened left me scarred for life. Ol Tippy's jeans ripped half way off on one side. Another successful training session at Die-Hard Kennel!

Hey Doug, Long time no see. You should come over and help us with the training sometime. I'm running out of victims, I mean partners.
Did I tell you about the time Randy "Randorf" Bugg and I were training some young hounds. It was right after my previous partner got all those stitches and quit returning my calls. I think his wife got tired of applying all that ointment to his injuries. Anyway Randy and I turned this big overweight boar coon loose in the middle of this wide open hay field. I agreed to hold the two dogs so they could watch the coon run off and generate some excitement. I agreed to let Randorf open the trap. A highly trained professional coon hunter should always hold the dogs. It turned out that Randy got alot more excited than the hounds. That coon decided his best option was just to attack Randy rather than run away. I enjoyed that option also. It chased him all the way to his truck. I'm surprised how fast both of them are for their size. Then it went in his truck. The dogs were baying the Tacoma and Randy up in the bed of the truck. (Reminded me of the time Ray West and I were hunting and he accidentally shot through the bed of the truck and flattened the tire. But that is another story.) We honestly could not locate the coon. You could shake the bed of the truck and hear growling from the cab area. After a couple of hours I convinced Randorf the odds of that coon attacking him while he was driving was less than 60%. Randorf got the nerve up to get in drive home. Another successful training session here at DieHard Kennel. Doug, If you have time swing by this weekend I could use some help training these dogs.........Tim, Ray, Randy, and Tippy are not returning my calls...Not sure why.......

Why did you go and tell her the truth? Bad results every time. You should have faked the flu and made her feel guilty for leaving you home sick, or you could borrow my excuse. I'm allergic to the sand. I take a red sharpie marker and cover myself in little dots when she turns her head at the beach. Then return to the air conditioning to watch a John Wayne movie or head down the road to a bass pro shop. Takes about a week for the dots to wear off.
Randy and I treed one last night. Dangest thang happened. A saw briar bought cut his juggler vein while he was leading my dog back to the truck. Thats another story though...
Eric,
Send me a picture of those sheds. How are the pups coming along.
Later Rusty
