tips for getting your dog to hold more tree pressure

i have a somewhat young dog that hasnt been hunted a whole lot. hunted her in a competition this weekend and she didnt want to stay treed with the other dogs. she wouldnt completely leave but just mill around 10-15 yards off. this was after she already opend on the tree a handful of times. how can i get her to hold more pressure and get her to stay treed longer on her own. when she hunts with dogs she is used to, she doesnt back off at all and when splits trees she does a pretty good job

I wouldn't comp hunt the dog for a while until she is solid.

I've had good luck tightening up tree dogs during the kill season by tying back the loose tree dog and shooting the coon out to the other dogs. I don't know why this seems to work, but it tends to be effective. Ultimately though, sometimes some dogs just don't tree well with other dogs or hold a lot of pressure.

PWC gave good advice....I read once Joe House said, The first time a dog trees is as much pressure as it will hold the rest of its life......I think he would be correct.

Your dog may have run into some ill dogs. And, some that aren't exactly ill can be intimidating. I would say hunting your dog with a variety of outside dogs through the week may get your dog used to treeing with strange dogs.

Is that what she's doing? Checking to make sure that she's sure?

What would you do to make a dog not check a tree? Some it's natural to them, and others learn it.
