running rabbits
how many of you let your hound pups run loose with a beagle or let them run rabbits? i do and have not had any problems with running them after they are hunting coon at night---some show no interest and some do better than most beagles lol had one female here that i had to tie up at about 6mnths that was catching one and eating it about every morning. only one ive raised that could pull this off consistantly. she is a nice solid cooner now.

I had a redtick bitch bred by Ray Rawls (sp?) from Idaho. When she was a pup my wife swore she was a redticked Beagle because nothing lit her up like the scent of a cottontail, and she'd run them like nobodies business. I lost her before she ever made a dog, but she sure looked to be a good one if she could of had the chance.

A good hound dog will give his life for you. To return the favor is the least you can do.
I have Hunting Beagle Champion beagles. I don't mind my pups running rabbits to start out. I have found if they get where they can drive a rabbit as good as a good beagle, they will make superior track dogs on coon. We don't have enough rabbits where rabbit running is ever a problem at night and most pups quit rabbits after a few coon. If they don't, a switch will change their minds. My grandfather used to train his dogs to run rabbits in the day but they would never run a rabbit at night.
