No Names Please...but
I was just wondering if anyone else around the country has this circumstance. Do any of you have a person in your area that when you go to the hunts you dread drawing them because you know if you do the cast will not be any fun. And if so do you find yourself driving further because of it. No names please I do not want this to be a bash thread just wondering how widespread this is. The youth hunts are drawing more and more numbers and soon these kids will be hunting with us. I t bothers me to think how some people will treat them in the hunts. I have been lucky this year to have drawn good people and been on fun casts, but I know some night this summer I will draw the person around here that makes it no fun, some say it is part of the game but in my mind it does not have to be. Out of 7 nights hunted in a week only one is spent in competition and up here all fall is spent pleasure hunting, so competition should be a good time. I like to win as much as anyone, but some make it seem like life and death. If you have any thoughts on this please share, but like I said not a bash thread.

sorry Jake-
I'll try to clean up my act a little from here on out. Scruff and Brooks are a lost cause though. lol
We have two around here that carry the reputation you're talking about. Ninety percent of what you hear about them in the hunts is horror stories. I have drawn both of them twice, recently, and they judged everytime. They were straight up honest, knew the rules and the hounds better than most and both were pack'in tough hounds. I have a theory about those guys and there reps but I'll keep it to myself.
I can think of a couple like that.
One got the message that he was gonna get barred if he kept coming to nite hunts, so he's pretty much quit.
The other one is not that bad to hunt with, he just tries to manipulate the rules and argue to his benefit. He'll make you know the rules and judge strictly to keep him in line, but if you do, he's not really a problem to hunt with.
The thing is, if you have someone that nobody wants to hunt with, then take the bull by the horns and take some action. If he's cheated, then report him to UKC. If he's just a jerk, then club management needs to take action. I know its easier said than done, and most good folks are slow to kick someone out of an activity thats supposed to be fun for everybody.
If nothing else, tell the club officers that you will no longer come to their events if ____ is there. Chances are, they've heard this before, and the more folks that will stand up and say so, will give them something to take some action on.
I honestly know of a couple that are like that. But most of the time the people who get talked about and people don't like to draw are the ones that KNOW the rules and don't let the little bull crap stuff go on in the casts. I like to have fun on a cast as much as the next person but I also like to be on a cast where EVERYONE knows the rules. If everyone knew the rules I think you would see alot less of the horror casts that everyone talks about. But this is just my opinion.

I think you could find a couple in just about every club thats out there. You are always going to have those that whine and complain no matter what happens. Thats just human nature. And if you want to really get to the bottom of it, nobody really likes to lose(myself included, it just seams like some of us have learned to lose before we learned to win, it makes it alot easier that way)
As being on the board of a club, we have banned individuals for a period of one year from attending our UKC hunts, hoping that they will learn from their mistakes and make a change. (some people just can't make that change). These decisions were not made light hearted and not without some serious considerations nor was it done out of jealously(some people just can't stand to get beat by a real live coondog, Imagine that) But as a club managment we have the duty to insure that every hunter gets a fair and equal chance to win his cast and have a enjoyable hunt.
Guys with the ever raisng price of gas at the pumps, the hunt numbers are going to suffer as well and you have to think of the clubs future. Can your club finacially let 1 trouble hunter run off 5 or 6 good hunters every hunt? Put the pencil to it and weigh the odds.
Maitland you know the only time I drew you I had fun and no troubles! Scruff and Brooks have been good to hunt with too! I wish I drew you guys more often.
