Pups From Half Brother+half Sister
I SAW ON THE OTHER THREAD WERE PEOPLE WOULD BREED HALF BROTHER TO HALF SISTER. AND SOME COMMENTS WERE MADE, IF THE PUPS HAD DEFECTS, THEY WOULDN'T BREED THEM AGIN. WOULD YOU SELL THOSE PUPS FROM LITTERS THAT DIDN'T HAVE ANY DEFECTS OR WOULD YOU BE WORRIED ABOUT THE DEFECTS YOU CAN'T SEE ?

You are more likely to get defects you don't see from unrelated dogs than closely related dogs. In closely related dogs, the defects are doubled up and will show themselves, in outcross, they may remain hidde under dominate genes that cover them up. Read a book on genetics.

I AM ONE OF THESE PEOPLE WHO SAY SEEING IS BELEIVEING IF YOU HAD REALLY READ THAT BOOK, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WHEN YOU LINE BREED YOU GET THE DEFECTS AS MUCH AS YOU GET THE STUFF YOU WANT. I HAVE SEEN SOME OF YOUR LINE BREED- IN BREED HOUNDS JUST FALL OVER DEAD, FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AT 3YEARS OF AGE. COURSE I AIN'T NO BIG TIME BREEDER, I'M JUST AN OLD HILLBILLY. BUT I AIN'T GONA SELL ANYBODY A DEFFECTIVE PUP FOR ANY REASON!

There have been many, many linebred pups in all breeds that have been very successfull. The decisions to make these crosses have been made by smarter men than you or me, and made with much success. I believe, based on experience, that some lines can hold up well with tighter breeding as Dave states. And I agree with Dave that it is more likely that defects can be hidden breeding unrelated dogs than inbreeding or linebreeding, becuse in linebreeding or inbreeding you may be doubling up on undesirable traits. I've read several of your posts. People who spout old wives tales about dogs just dropping dead at three due to line breeding without clinical or medical proof doesn't cut it for me. Any line can carry defects but you can't make general statements like that without proof. We all have our ideas about breeding, you can do what you want. We all want to breed better dogs and help all the breeds. But if you want to make general statements and put down other peoples beliefs without good proof it makes you look bad. Read some of Vickie Lambs posts. She doesn't make general statements when discussing a topic, she clearly explains using logic, medical proof, statistics, and experience to explain her views. Not trying to knock ya Joe, I'm sure you believe in what you say. I just think we need to agree to disagree in a manner thay explains our views, it makes for more of a wealth of information we all can use.
Good luck!
