Removing a dogs "fangs" to stop chewing

Who has done it? Did it completely stop the problem, slow it down, or do nothing? What other problems came as a result? Will any vet do it? Thanks for your thoughts and opinions. I'm getting really fed up with seeing nice, valuable trees damaged and wondering where my dog is treed at.

I have heard very good results from this. have heard of sub=par tree dogs turn to every breath tree dogs. If it was me and I was to the end with the chewing, I would look into hog rings first and if that did not work I would take him to the dentist. Good luck with him.

Thanks Ryan but exactly how would you use a hog ring. Would you put it through through his lip or his nose? It doesn't sound like it would work quite as well but it's a whole lot cheaper and easier to do.

Put 3 hogs rings (small) on each side of his muzzle in the upper lip. It won't stop him from chewing on vines or twigs but it will stop the majority of his chewing. Most serious chewers chew on the main trunk of the tree and turn their head sideways to bite with the sides of their mouth. This will eliminate that. And it won't hurt them once they are in. Once they heal up it's like a pierced ear and you can take them in and out. But don't leave them out too long. I promise it will work.

Found a post on how to put them in. i will keep looking for others.

What you could do is sell the dog and buy you a couple trees.Unless your dog has beaver incisers I dont think he will be doing much damage to a tree you can strip a tree of its bark and it will just grow right back but to pull his teeth would just be lame perhaps you should buy a battery operated dog that way you wont have claw and teeth marks on your trees.

It's true. Last week I walked in the woods behind my house and there are two dead trees because of him. If the tree is small and or he is treed there for a long time he will kill it. Whether he kills them or lot I doubt land owners like it. I know i wouldn't want it. Somedays I pickup turds out of this dogs pen and it is all wood chips lol

And besides i want him making some noise when he's treed!

I've searched the other posts and the worst things about it I can find is:
1. Not being able to kill a coon.
2. Not being able to kill another dog in a nite hunt
3. They could rot out if you do it wrong.
4. It wouldn't stop the chewing.

I've found several people saying "don't do it" but most dont say why

I did this with a dog called Screamin Hawk back in 93, it helped very little, I would try the hog rings first.
