**9 week old puppies chase house cat!!

GOOD!!

NOT GOOD!!

What do you all think? We let the pups out yesterday evening, and here came the old yellow and white cat-(she's not very smart) The pups had evidently never seen a cat before because they would look at it, then they'd woof at it. Then they'd run up real close to it and bounce around on their front paws with their butts stuck up in the air. When the cat would turn around and walk away from them, they'd run right up to her and just sniff of her. They'd go crazy if she took off running. I think it's good because I got to see how each of the pups reacted to the cat and getting smacked with a paw and all this other stuff.

So, good, or not!!

My brothers Pyscho pups have been chew'in on cats since they were 5 weeks old. When they aren't beating up cats they're fighting each other. Gotta love that Bellar blood.

I took my 4month old pup out with her aunt and daddy last week.....she did a lot of barking at the tree, I am not foolish enough to believe she is REALY treeing though, she is just copying the older dogs.

The fact that they are chasing cats isnt bad, but they sure have a long way to go before they are coondogs.....Just curious, When do you plan on showing them a coon?

MEANS NOTHING

MEANS NOTHING GOOD OR BAD..........I think that that means they are just being puppies, and as far as hanging a hide in a tree, and having a pup barking at it that means even less.

I have seen dachshunds, cocker spaniels and a shitz zhue bark at caged coons and hung hides. None of them turned out. But I still like to see those pups bark at cats or anything gamey.

Posted by Spanky on 08-05-2003 03:02 PM:

I agree with.....

Ron....I want my pups showing me interest, the earlier the better. House cats are a homerun for me. No coon here so we resort to the next available.

I feel it does show a natural instict more so then just being a puppy. Following it is one thing but when they follow it to a tree and put their feet up oh yea I'll take that everyday.

House Cats and hung hides.

You folks think what you want/need to, and so will I, but the thing of those puppies barking at a house cat or a hung hide means so very little other than what it is. They are just old enough to be interested at anything they see especially if it moves. Having them barking at a hide hung in a tree is not proving anything of any ability at doing anything, and sure they are showing interest at something that has got thier attention. I bet if you took your shoe/boot off, and hung it up they would bark at it would that make them tree shoes/boots when they grow up.

Wow all will run, and ree at 6 to 7 month's old

RC JR. You have no doubt done what all breeders have tried so hard to do, and that being all your pups will run, and tree coon at that early age. Where are these pups sold, and what stock dog are you raising.

Don't jump onto RCjr.. I am not gonna talk about my pups. Wouldn't want to hear the repercussions.

Posted by COONDOG on 08-05-2003 06:51 PM:

I HAVE A PUP IN OWEN SOUND CANADA THAT AT 9 WEEKS WILL RUN AND TREE OFF SCENT, AND WILL FLAT BLOW DOWN A COON IN A CAGE THAT IS HUNG. NOT PUPS OUT OF 4 OR 5 GEN OF ALL GRAND AND NOT OUT OF RECOGNIZED DOGS BUT HAVE THE BRAINS AND BREEDING TO MAKE ME AND THE PERSON THAT OWNS HER VERY HAPPY.

Posted by Philip on 08-05-2003 08:07 PM:

To me it just means that dog is going to bark every time a cat walk through. It is not all bad, shows they are gamey.

Posted by choppin axe on 08-05-2003 09:09 PM:

hopefully those pups will get used to the house cats (only my opion). my cat eats out of the same bowl with my young dog, but he will flat tree a coon. here is why i say that, i was on a hunt and right after we turned the dogs loose. they blew in there and got treed.my dog was shut out on stike and tree until we got to the tree, and about ten feet up there set a house cat, and to be honest it felt pretty good to me. i was the only dog that did not get minused. it could really hurt on the nite champ class. but if you dont comp hunt a cat will probably never have an effect on you or your dog. but for young pups like that it sounds real good to me. keep those pups going.... gary woods

MY WAY / YOUR WAY

DON'T MEAN TO GET JUMPY BUT THAT IS THE WAY I WORK MY PUPS AND HAVE GOOD LUCK WITH WHAT I DO. I COON HUNT 24/7
I WORK PUPS 8 WEEKS TO 4/5 MONTHS IN THE DAY TIME . WORK THEM FROM 5 MONTHS ON AT NIGHT. THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF COON AROUND HER WITCH MAKES IT VERY EASY FOR YOUNG HOUNDS. MY LINE OF HOUNDS ARE BAWLIN BARNEY LINE AND BANJO BLOOD I DON'T BREED TO ANYTHING UNLESS IT HAS SCHMERSALS STYLISH QUENN IN IT THAT WHAT MY LINE COMES FROM.

If you want to have your puppies chase something, your better off with a rabbit. Because when the cat gets tired of it, your pup will not be able to grow another eye.

Good and bad

Good for the pups and bad for the cats.

Posted by Christy on 08-06-2003 09:35 PM:

OK--IS THIS BETTER????

All the pups will chase a drug COON hide and wool it to death.
1 will trail coon hide while it's being drug.
1 will bark treed at it.
2 will bark at a live coon.
None of them are scared of it enough to where they don't come back sniffing to see what the heck that is when it jumps at them.

By the way, if the coon hide is around, the cat is nothing to them.

I think that if put in the right hands, these pups will turn out to be good dogs.

Christy............

which of them pups is mine????................I hope it's the one treein' the hide.

Posted by Christy on 08-07-2003 09:29 PM:

coon dawg:

The pup that trails the hide is Spot-the one we're selling.
The pup that trees the hide is 2 Spots-My puppy.
The pups that bark at the live coon are yours and the other female.
Blackie-Quincy's pup just grabs the hide and tries to break his neck from swinging it around and wooling it!!

night raider:

I must say, the females have showed the males up with the fierceness. But, the males seem to be more interested in finding out where it went, and how to get to it!!

I'm telling you, we've been working really hard with these pups, and I'm truly impressed with the progress they make every day. They get braver and braver every day.
