Good season. It went by so quick. Time literally flew by! Killed several coon, seen some good dog work, seen some bad dog work, had some good laughs, lost some sleep, several tanks of gas gone, a few close calls along the way.......the running season needs to hurry up and get here.....I'm getting depressed.
yea, last night i about did a new body job on the right side of my white truck brian, i came up over a hill and there was a car comin up, kinda on my side, i had to swerve over...i didnt want to end up like my other friends a week or so ago, ya know..and i seen a pole..about at my headlight, so i swerved back and it knocked my mirror off! close call! so i stopped, picked it up and snapped it back on...gotta love a chevy. lol.

Not as good a season as usual. Dogs did not operate and it seemed like the population was down a bit. I'm starting over. Sold my old dog and bought a year old female so hopefully next season will be better. The best and worst thing to ever happen to me was to get a real good dog then not be able to find another. The search continues.
my old dog kicked the bucket--never stopped huntin him--Grnitech pkc ch akc grnitech owl creek bart--14 years old,,cut him 30 times, treed 28 coon and two dens---hes the best dog ive ever owned, followed ,and snapped a lead to,,,may he rest in peace
ive hunted mostly young dogs all season,,treed another 30 or so with a pup out of the litter i raised last year--'pr' savage hombre--
bought a bojangle pup last month--got him goin real good--treed 13 with the short time i had him,,,he just started,,been hunted maybe 10 times when i got him,,,
treed 45 with my cord female--ch pr" crownpoint sara
it was alrite season,, hunted hard,,it got hard to get up for school when you stay out late almost every night, lol,,,i was kinda bummed about my bart dog,,he was my first dog ever,, but now its an entire new generation,,,lookin forward to runnin season already, lol
God bless and Happy Hunting

It was a pretty good season weather wise. Though we treed sevaral, around here the coon seemed kind of scarce in Nov. and Dec. more dens than usual and just did not strike as many as usual. I was blameing a distemper outbreak and know a local trapper who said there just were not many coon this year. Then the rut started-for the first time in my life, I was treeing boars with swelled nuts in December. When rutting season took off it seamed there were plenty of coon everywhere. The trapper I know said the same thing so I just do not know where they were earlier in the season. Anybody else see this scinerio?

First 4 weeks was solid hunting every night. After that it was snow, cold, rain, flood, snow ice, cold, ice, flooding, ice, cold, cold, ice, ........
It was hit and miss the rest of the season. Having not hunted for 20-25 years I thought we did well. Took the last in yesterday to the fur buyer. I think we got about 60 coon but it was tough hunting from December on.
the leaves stayed on longer than normal.
December arrived about 2 weeks early.
December has always been by far the toughest month to tree coon for me. it doesn't matter how nice the weather is, its like the coon have disappeared.
everyone has their own theory about how almost our entire coon population has been wiped out. you hear it every year.
well, true to form, when the rut started in january, our coon were back and you could tree one anytime you wanted to brave the elements.
so other than the leaves staying on up until the coon disappeared,i thought it was a normal year.
anyways...who is goin to the HTDA banquet this coming saturday, appearantly me and brian are. haha

Talking to others at the fur buyers yesterday, trappers, shiners, houndsmen, they all agreed that the take of 2007 yearling coons was drasticly down.
The prices being paid this year are far above what has been seen in years. Buddy sold 17 yesterday, fleshed and dried, $15.64 average. Of the 17, only 4 were under XL.
