Allen,Todd UKC help
Several years ago an article was ran in coonhound bloodlines that had info in it about how to deal with dogs going onto the wrong property. It told what states had laws to help the houndsmen and what they were.I called UKC sometime back twice and was told they would get back with me and heard nothing. The article was ran sometime in the 90's probably 93 or later because I was out of hunting from about 88-92 and it was after I got back into it.
Thanks for your help this seems to be a frequent problem for many.

Youd be better off contacting your local conservation officer. The law has probably been changed 100 times since the article your talking about was written 15 years ago.
I don't remember the article. I can ask someone from publications to check this thread and they may be able to help. Not sure though. It's probably going to take someone sitting down and actually thumbing through all those old issues to try and find it.

As was stated above the laws have changed greatly state by state. "Someone" would have to check with each state and see what the current laws are. Almost all states now have "right to retrieve" law but they are worded differently. In some states you can just get your dog, in some states you have to notify the landowner(wake him up) and in some states you have to notify an "authority" to go with you.
help
I realize they may have changed some but if you have to rely on your local law enforcement if they are like the ones here youll ask 6 and get 6 answers. This article I think had the code number and other info on it.I cut it out and laminated it and kept it in my dog box but it is lost now.If anyone has any old magazines maybe they can look through them sometime.

law
What were discussing is if your dogs wander off onto the wrong property what rights do you have. There was a person who just had a dog killed and it started a discussion. Many people beleive if your dogs are on private property they can shoot the dog and there was an article about this in bloodlines several years ago and I wanted to find the article.

if michael vick dont have enough money to fight them.
why would you think some poor farmer could shot 1?
Call your State Department of Natural Resources. Ask if Ohio has the Right to retrieve law and what it entails. You can even look at their webpage....

the right to retrive.

law
I understand that going to and asking is the best procedure but that dont always work.I have asked local game wardens and law enforcement and have received different answers from most of them.Ohio was 1 of the states that had it but many people are not up on the law its not as simple as some think it is.I am trying to get another copy of the article or maybe UKC will redo another article for this. Many people have false ideas about this law and I know someone can help us out with this.Ohio had a right to retrieve law and I was cited for trespassing a few years ago and I did not set foot on the persons property,my dogs treed on his property he removed them from the tree shut them inside a kennel and called the game warden who got ahold of me and cited me stating my dogs were under my control.I later showed him the copy of the article im talking about and he said he knew nothing of any such law and felt the article was wrong and went ahead and cited us.I did not pay the waiver I went to court and the judge or prosecutor knew nothing of it either but when I showed them the article they looked up the code numbers and agreed with me and dropped everything and this is why I would like for all of us to work together and find out how this works. Most people who have responded probably has never read anything about this law but is going on what someone else said we need to read it for ourselves.
