Baby coons this time of year?
Tonight i was on a competition hunt and my dog and another guys dog treed on a really tiny tree, maybe 15 feet tall. The moon was bright tonight so before we started shining I could see a little ball at the top of the tree and I was almost certain it was a possum, we turned the lights on and it was a baby coon!
I thought most coons were grown by now, how many of yall have treed a baby coon this time of year?

Caught one on the ground the first week of Nov that weighed maybe 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. Also years ago I had a place i hunted all the time and every late Sept early Oct I would tree kittens, so little there tails were only about 4-5 inches long.
I knocked a sow out in September a few years ago that was just getting ready to have kittens.
two litters a year
the boars will try to kill the young ones so the sows will come in heat again. thats where alot of the late litter coon come from..also cleaning out the old hay from barns in the spring. when there whelping nest get disturbed the sows will abandone the young ones and come in heat again, causing a late litter..

Thunders Storms, in early febuary. we turned loose in a down pour only dog that got treed, had its head in a hole at the base of the tree. we looked inside and there were some 1 or 2 days old kittens and one soaking wet mama that was very upset

I used to work on a Golf course and saw some very small coons the last week of November. They were out of the den, but I dont think they had a chance of making it through the winter? I have never seen smaller coon that late in the year.

Treed a few here in MO the first of the season. Looked more like mullberry season coon than pecan season coon. About the size of a weaned house cat and still had the little rat tails.
They were all in the same area though and I keep lots of feed around there. Its were I work young dogs. I figured it was a second litter as there we also treed several half grown coon there as well.
In fact thats about all we have treed there for a good long while. Yearling size coon or sows with young litters. No big boar coon to speak of.
That place has den boxes up though and 4 55 gallon drum feeders spread out. No kill zone and feed in the feeders year round.
