performance program question ???

if you bred a female and her pups won't be born til january 08, does your sire have to be a performance sire at the time of breeding or time of pups born ??? In other words we want our litter to be performance pups, so can we just pay him up for 08 or did he have to be a performance sire at the time we bred her ??? Thanks guys.. Pete
