UKC On-Line Services - Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace!

I think we've discussed this in the past but I can't find the results and it is very important that I get feedback right away. WC has appointed a Web Commerce committee here at UKC to work on getting on-line services up and running asap. What I would like to hear from you so that I can pass it on to the committee is :

What would you consider the five most beneficial on-line services to UKC customers??? In order of importance if you can.

Thanks for the input!

If possible-
registration process- Example- type in the pups ukc # to see if papers have been processed.

Online Pedigrees- also search dogs name or # to pull up pedigrees, titles, pups produced( everthing on performance pedigree).Maybe even owner info.

If I think of more I'll post later!

a way to access how many points a dog has towards show or nitech.

Posted by Redtick on 03-11-2004 05:59 PM:

I think some type of service where a dog's UKC number could be typed in and his UKC records of date of birth, competition wins, his pedigree, and current ownership would come up. Maybe even his reproduction record. I truely believe this would benefit all of UKC's customers and benefit UKC 's staff by not having to answer calls from folks wanting this information. I think it would be very cost effective.

1)geneology

2)wins/points/titles earned

3)owner info, (but maybe that should be limited in some way as to protect against animal rights people just being able to search and then harrass people.) maybe if you're an owner, then have some sort of login using your dogs # or something unique to identify you as an ower.

4)online registration or ordering (this may be already in place & I dont know it yet)

............

pedigree search, complete with #of pups, etc.

Posted by Casey Bigelow on 03-11-2004 06:04 PM:

For the performance rewards program-
Be able to pull up dogs points- will Benefit breeders, sire owners, and dog owners,- so they won't have to wait till the end of the year to see how it's adding up. So sire owners /breeders can know how the pups are doing.

Those are absolutely great ideas.

NOW...

How much would you pay to be able to do those things online?

Would you pay an annual fee to be able to track your Nite Hunt/Bench Show points online? How about to being able to run a PAD on a sire you wish to breed to?

Everything has a cost and someone has to pay for it. I think it would be worthwhile to pay an annual fee to be able to access points etc. Or maybe an one time fee to download a non-transferrable pedigree. What do you think?

1. Online registration
2. Statistics for a UKC# or name(enter the UKC number and get all info for that dog-wins, points, etc.)
3. Hunt info-enter a date and a state and get listings of UKC hunts in that area(I know its in the book, but the book isn't always around)
4. Updated geneology of a UKC# or name with registered owners listed also(will help in keeping up with siblings or parents)
5. Updated list of barred handlers and dogs(enter a name and see if they are barred from events)

My $.02 worth...

1. File Hunt and Show results online. This would save for lost hunt results, and would ENSURE that your wins on your dogs would be turned into UKC.

2. On-line genealogy.

3. On-line offspring report.

4. On-line wins/points/titles/degrees earned

5. On-line sibling report.

All good request's

and a user fee wouldnt be out of order as long as it isnt an aburd price.
Another thing that may or maynot have been listed that would be nice would have an inbreed coeffiecent program tied to the pedigree searches.

It doesn't sound like anyone wants to pay any extra does it Todd. For some things I wouldn't mind paying extra, some things I would wait and do it by mail. If I could register a dog in my name faster, I would pay for that as a example.

Tank, these online services should pay for themselves since they would be a costs savings by freeing up your valuable staff to work on other projects. Therefore, online users should not have to pay an annual or user fee. The information will be entered into a computer anyway for UKC's use. The only additional work is the programming and maintenance to allow online users access. I think the computer can be a valuable tool for our research and I appreciate UKC's efforts.

NOT SURE HOW MUCH WOULD BE FAIR BUT I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN TIMES WHEN I WAS WANTIN TO KNOW SOMETHIN AND WOULD HAVE PAYED TO GET IT LOL

BUT I THINK AN ANNUAL FEE WOULD BE BEST! JMO

id be glad to pay an annual fee to be able to look up pedigrees- long as its not too high -- i havent decided whats too high yet - pete

Posted by Art Thompson on 03-11-2004 06:33 PM:

I don't see the need for a fee. Banks offer free on line SERVICES hence the term service. Secondly, the clubs would be doing the work UKC staff are already doing. This should free up time and personel. Yes UKC would have the initial fee of the programing and having it set up but the long term advantages should out weigh those.

Also, it is a competative world we live in try and do something your competitors don't and you might just do more business!

As a true free market person I hate to see fees, I also own my own business and it is stuff like this that attracks customers.

1. Online pedigree research - Type in a Reg. number and get a 1 to 3 gen pedigree, with pups and degrees information
2. Show/Hunt reports
3. Litter registrations
4. Offspring reports
5. Online hunt results

All, for no increased or additional fees, of course.

I can only imagine the stacks of paperwork that must show up at UKC every day. The paper shredder and garbage disposal savings ought to more than offset some increased programming and system upgrades.

Posted by Bullet on 03-11-2004 06:36 PM:

One reason I really like UKC is because you don't have to pay an annual fee. UKC gets their money per dogs entered in events, registration fees, etc. They just had a 1/3 price increase on hounds entered in events. Wish I could get a 1/3 of my salary raise. I don't really mind an ocassional price increase on services as long as it is in line with folks' general pay increases. Now UKC has the performance sire program in which money is coming in. So I say a definate NO to a cost for these services.

I would pay some to be able to search for pups my dogs have produced but maybe you could have an option on litter or permanent registration that would allow you to charge a one time fee . but the thought of a yearly "membership" fee is not out of line either. that way all you would have to do is put in a member id # to allow you to search .

Posted by Todd K / UKC on 03-11-2004 06:38 PM:

That's kind of what I was wanting to know Phillip. Which services would be so important to you that you would be willing to pay extra for the speed and convenience of doing it on-line.

i agree with art. the word "free" is just so **** attractive! LOL!!!
