back again

i have a 11 mo old treeing cur. he is registered treeing cur but is a mountain cur. no papers----long story.
i have a problem with him. he likes to pick on my bluetick. what i mean by this is he will bark and bite at him. we have corrected him for this. mostly the blue will ignore him but there are now times when i end up having a dog fight on my hands. they both live in the house. when they go outside mohawk(the cur) will snap and yip at shi(the blue). as i have said we continually correct him for this but so far only if we are standing right there will he not do it. are curs known for aggressiveness? i have been told that they are. or could this stem from the fact that this cur was starved and abused as a small pup. we got him at about 2 1/2 mos. also what would be the best way to correct him? the hound way isn't working.

Mean dog

You ahould have been correcting the bad behavior when it first croped up. By letting it go liike you have you have created a mean dog. You should have worked the dog over some as a pup for showing that type of behavior. At this age I would cull the Cur.

bad manners

Put the pup in the pen with several older dogs mostly male dogs.
if you know some one who has some fox dogs or bear dogs .
some times the comunity will deal with bad behavier .
if that dosent work , id move him on down the road .
of corse you wouldent want to leave him there to long if hes very agressive because that might get him a visit to the vet but some times enviroment and a good aditude ajustment helps

1st he is 11 months old and plenty trainable. Could it be that he likes to play real hard, at 11 months many males still have a lot of puppy in them. The Bluetick might take care of it but i would use a shock collar if you have one. Hunt t he pup and keep him busy and let the old dog take care of it. I would try that before i culled him. Ditto Trott

Trott kind of made my point clear the older dog should correct the problem, or maybe one or two together , the pup wants to ruff house with another dog just like a couple of young boys will some times do but if theres not an adult there to say no dont do that then some times its excepted as ok behavior and will even get the tempers flaired up .

we have been correcting it when we see it happening. i do have an older (6yrs) female that will play with him at times but does let him know when he has crossed the line or she is simply tired of it. mostly the 2yr old blue dog will just run from him. shi doesn't really put himself out for too much. but when shi has had enough he lets mohawk know and instead of backing off like he does with the older dog mohawk will fight with shi. we have been correcting like i said.
i think it could be that mohawk just wants to play and he does play rough. he seems to have a lot of energy. long after the other dogs have settled for the night, he's still bringing over balls and rope to play tug of war.
its just that someone told me that curs can get aggressive and i didn't want this to get out of hand. most of what has been suggested is what we do with our hounds. i do have a huge bluetick that i could put mohawk with for a spell. more than likely ole sam would just sit on him for a while. might make him think for a while.
