Walker on the bench

Ok, I've been working with my 16 month old walker on the bench and here's what we have so far.... I'm still fresh to this bench show stuff, so let me know what we need to work on. Straighten out his topline a little better? I can't seem to get him on his toes in the front too good....

Thanks a million!

trimming his toenails will help with that some.
do you have any pics from the front and/or back view? looks like he's a little wide in the back but hard to tell.

Back legs look like they could come out farther.. He looks a little bunched up in the back.. I have used two methods for getting the up on their toes.. Bottle caps under my little Walker female worked well.. For my little bluetick I just pinched her on her chest... 'bought under her front legs.. She lifted right up.. And I am by NO means an expert.. Just lucky LOL

Do you get Bloodlines? There have been a couple of great articles on conformation in them

My walker wouldnt stand on her toes very good so I took small blocks of wood and put them at the back of her foot. I did that for about 6 months and it finally became habit for her to stand on her toes. Might not work for everyone but it worked great for me. Good luck.

What's he bred like? I really like that coloring. I'm a sucker for an all red head.

I agree I think trimming those toenails will help alot. Also PATIENCE, don't get frustrated. You always want to end a training session on a good note, that way they like being on the bench!!!! Good looking fellow!! Good luck!! Jessica

Erin make sure that you work on his gate. A dog is judged more on the ground. He should have a prance when he walks. A chock collar can help you do this.

HE LOOKS LIKE HE WOULD RATHER BE STANDING ON A TREE THAN THAT BENCH TO ME, BUT THATS JUST MY OPINION

He gets his time in the woods, too. Wouldn't they all rather be on a tree than a bench?

We just started him in the woods. I think he'll turn out nice... biggest, loudest mouth I've heard in a long time.

If you get a chance go to a seminar on showing, i dont show much but sat through a seminar at the Treeing Walker youth show in Wyatt Indiana a couple years ago. Lots of great tips.

Showing

I'll be coming to Jimmy Meeks to go hunting. If you don't live to far you can bring your dog over and check him out. I'm not an expert but I've shown a few. If you know Jimmy ask him. Be glad to help if I can.
