What has become of a family sport?
Please help to bring justice where needed. For the first time in 40+ years of being a coonhound fancier it sickens me to be associated to the sport of showing. Information is needed on the wrongful doing to CCH GR CH Pr’ Rowe’s Hilltop Little Tammy. After another vet’s review we have found that someone(s) intentionally caused damage and pain to her on Friday, September 1, 2007 at the UKC Autumns Oaks.
Tammy was left between the bench show judging of Redbones and Best of Show in her 4’ x 4’ ex-pen soaking in the sun! Never have any of us had to worry about the health or well-being of a “show dog” till now! Upon my return to her kennel, she was found in a state of shock, and when placed on the bench to examine her, her tail was found to be limp. Vet’s tell us it has been pulled out of its vertebrae socket, at the second joint joining the tail to the hip bone. Vet’s agreed this wasn’t/couldn’t be a self inflicted wound, but an abusive action. She will heal, but only with time.
We need your help. We want justice done to those that have to make such extreme measures to eliminate competition. Tammy’s show career was ending after the World Championship where we have a planned breeding for this fall. We’d also decided to hunt her this fall. She a real trooper, even with a limp tail, she gave Tricia 110% in that show ring Saturday and will be there for the final stroll! Limp tail and all! It won’t get us down!!!!!
Our spirits are broken, but the fact that evil folks have to take such measures to assure a bench show win is sickening. I want justice!!! If we can’t stop this kind of abuse to animals what will become of our “family” sport in years to come. If you know of or saw any individual around the tents and kennel set-up for Steve Randolph, Tricia Snedegar, and others late Friday afternoon please contact either me or Tricia Snedegar with information. The exact location was east of the outdoor restrooms with showers, and vendor buildings on the paved road. The camping was on the north side of the paved road, with the grooming and staging area for dogs under two grey tents on the south side of the paved road. Several wire and hard sided crates where under these tents, with 3 - 4 x 4 kennels. If you happened to be in this area, or overheard anyone discuss such action please help us!
Names will be kept confidential. A reward will be given to those helping us to bring justice to this abuse on animals, as well as legal action sought to stop this wrongful doing in the future.
Help to assure that showing dogs is a friendly and family sport.
Sincerely,
Steve Randolph

WOW it is hard to believe someone would stoop that low,if it did happen i hope you catch them ...
Man
that is freakin horrible... I remember way back in 1976 someone packed cotton in the ears of ole Ohio Mike in an attempt to take him off his game in a hunt one time. His handler noticed something funny and pulled it all out and Mike did his usual good job in that hunt. Also recall some Doping cases in North Central Pa. during hunts. What are these idiots thinking ???? If your not packin the dog power to win stay home !!!!
I hope you catch these people, they deserve what they get !!!

Yeah, I competition hunt !! All Fall and Winter long.. My Blues compete with the local coon.. My Blues win a ton !!! We use and recommend MOONSHINER LIGHTS, Peggs , Ok.
That's terrible. Hope she has a speedy recovery and you find the culprit. I am so sorry for your, and the dog's, pain.

Steve...
That is horrible...I had no idea that had happened. I hope that you guys find out who did this to her. It is horrible to think that someone would do that to a dog. I hope that Sis heals quickly and that she will be okay.

Steve jezzzz man that is awful. Hard to believe that folks would stoop so low to do that to a dog. Dad raised me that if I have a problem with Steve, go see Steve. Someone took that out on your dog and that is sorry as hell. Sorry I missed Oaks this year and first I heard of it. Anything the gang can do for you, please let me know....JS

Sorry to hear that happened. I could promise you one thing--if that happened to my dog, and I found out who did it--you wouldn't have to worry about them doing it ever again. They would learn their lesson...Some people just don't have any morals. I hope yall find the sorry jokers that did it.

That quote is wrong, it is paraphrased, and badly if I might add. The scripture says in 1 Timothy 6:10: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
A sorry lot indeed. As someone stated earlier, if you don't have the dog power, stay home. Coward would not dare go and talk to the person she/he had a problem with. Didn't have the stones to walk up and try to take a pot shot at the owner, took in after a defenseless dog. Anti-s must love reading this kinda garbage. Stop interfering with hunts and shows, let the best dogwin!

Thanks
Though I appreciate the support, I didn't post this to receive the kind remarks we are getting. I posted this hoping that someone will come forth and help us punish the abuser.
There IS NO money had in showing dogs. The reality is, there is no money in the hunting dogs period. Oh a few of us make money on a litter of pups here and there, or we sell one that brings big bucks. But an overall view of the sport - just a hobby and money spent. Show dogs are viewed as low man on the pole, and for the majority of coonhunters worthless. But still gives no reason to purposly injure a dog for the glory of a win.
So this wasn't a "money" issue, it was plain jealousy over a piece of hardwood and a title! It's a sad sad industry!

I think money indeed could have played into it. If a person thought they could win if dog A was out of the picture and did something to the dog to get it out of the picture, so that in thier view they could win. A litter of pups out of a hound that won AO Show or Hunt could bring a nice amount of change. Not to mention this handler could have been paid X amount based on performance, it is not undeard of, Nite Hunt participants have resorted to this, why should Show Dogs be any different?

Sad....
... I"m sorry any human can injure an animal like this. Hope they are caught. Game cams, security cameras etc... not a bad idea for these events. You ASSUME these dogs who often tie out will be fine without armed guards....
Hope this beautiful hound recovers quickly and the culprit is caught!
SIncerely, Heather

Totaly unbelievable.. Wether it was to lessen the competition or just out of spite it takes a total idiot to do something like this.
Surely someone heard her yelp or something ??
I shoved mine off the couch one day and he broke his tail right above the rump. You'ld of thought someone shot him the way he carried on.
Ours was an accident and I felt horrible. How could someone do it on purpose and sleep at night. Have someone jerk your leg out of sockett and see how it feels.
People are unbelievable......
We're sorry for you (and her) and hope she recovers quickly.

That's a sorry dirty trick and always has been. Used to happen to dogs running the old money field trails in my fathers time. He told me if you had a good tuff dog that was hard to beat you had to watch them close or some low life would break thier tails to throw them off thier game. Hope you catch them.
Steve, you know how I feel over this. How is she doing now? Let me know how she's doing.

Man, I feel for the dog more than anything..
People will stoop to anything for a "WIN" I heard of it on the 'A' rated horse shows and the rodeo events. Be thankful that is was just the tail. I have heard of horses getting poisioned and electrocuted. I am sorry that your dog has to go through such pain.. Sometimes this what I learned on the horse shows is this: Sometimes it is not a complete stranger, your best friend.
I watch my dogs which are just mangy hunting mutts very closely anyway. Because of what I have learned from the horse shows.
Anymore People will do anything for a WIN.. To me it is Whoopy Ding Dong.. I do it for fun and a hobby.. I personally like to go and BS and have a good time.. After hearing this maybe I will leave my dogs home next time.. I dont want "my kids" hurt or suffer like that..
Thanks
I would like to say "thanks" to everyone for the support in this terrible matter. Tammy is now with Tricia in Michigan and will be doing therapy on her tail set, in hopes to keep it in place and healing. She is showing much improvement, but will continue to need the med attention.
I would like to thank Deb and Nolan Crump for carefully handling Tammy and transporter her to Tricia. We do appreciate the friendships.
We would like to thank those who have made post, calls or sent emails about her health. We do have a couple leads that have been turned into authorities for investigation. The one thing we have really learned in this matter, is this sport ISN'T the fun and family sport it was 10+ years ago. It's become a hastful and jealous sport, and its just plain sad!
Sincerely,
Steve Randolph
