UKC Slam Series®Official Rules
*Revised January 1, 2007
1. *Slam Series Events are available to all licensed clubs at the limit of three per year.
2. Eligibility for Events: Open to all United Kennel Club Registered Coonhounds. Owner or certified handler must have in their possession the dog’s UKC Registration Certificate or UKC Easy Entry™ Card. UKC, at its sole discretion, has the right to refuse entry to any dog or handler. However, no handler shall be refused entry on the basis of religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, handicap, or disability.
3. Rules for Running the Events: UKC Nite Hunt Honor Rules, as they apply to UKC Nite Champions and Grand Nite Champions in effect for the year the event is run, with special revisions as required.
4. Drawing the casts. All Casts will be drawn publicly by lot, and participants may observe the draw if they choose. Hunting and Non-hunting Judges will be provided by the host club or organization and appointed to the casts with the assistance and approval of the UKC licensed Master of Hounds. Handlers are encouraged to participate in the drawing of the casts.
5. Judges. Hunting Judges will be used for the first round, and Non-hunting Judges for each subsequent round. Judges must be not less than eighteen (18) years of age. Judges must be physically fit to perform all duties of a Judge. One Hunting Judge and one guide, if needed, per cast in the First Round. Round Two, the final cast, will have two (2) Non-hunting Judges and a guide if needed.
6. Championship Points. All Registered hounds making it to the final cast will receive a first place win. All Nite Champions making it to the final cast will receive a Nite Champion win.
7. Slam Entries: All Slam events are based on first come first serve, day of hunt entry. The host club agrees to furnish at least enough guides to hunt 64 dogs but may accept as many entries as they can provide guides for.
As a condition for participation, all handlers will be required to sign a Release Form and acknowledge by their signature that they have read, understand, and agree to abide by the UKC Official Nite Hunt Honor Rules and the UKC Slam Series Official Rules.
8. Fees. Entry fee to be announced in advertisements preceding each UKC Slam event. Entry fees payable day of event to host club. Once dog is eliminated, there is no reentry at that particular UKC Slam event. Note: The host club has the authority to require Social Security numbers of registered owners.
9. Back-up handlers/Spectators. Normal spectator rules apply in all Slam events. Once the back-up handler takes over, the original handler cannot resume the handling responsibilities on that particular cast. The back-up handler cannot by word of mouth or action assist the original handler or dog in any way. However, Judges can order the removal of a back-up handler from the cast and the woods at the Judge’s sole discretion. Handler and back-up handler must be declared at the time of entry.
10. Prize money. Prize money will be awarded for first round cast winners (entry fee refund) and to dogs in the final cast. Prize money will be paid by the host club in accordance with the Slam Prize Breakdown at the conclusion of the event. Slam prize money may only be split if majority of final cast agrees to do so. The distribution of Slam prize money is strictly the responsibility of the host club and not the responsibility of United Kennel Club, Inc.
UKC reserves the right to set prize amounts and control distribution of prize money at its sole judgement and discretion. Prize money will be awarded on a “prorated” basis should the maximum entry not be met.
11. Hunting Time: The early round casts on any given night will be two hours in duration. A late round cast on any given night will be one hour in duration.
*12. Hunt Format: The top four (4) cast winners with a total score of plus points will advance to the second and final round.
Dogs in the final cast will be placed according to total score, including up to 400 minus. If tie cannot be broken, dogs remaining tied will split prize money. If all dogs in Final Cast scratch, purse will be divided equally among all members of the cast. Any Round prior to the Final Round that eliminates all competition will be considered the Final Round and prize money will be divided
equally between all hounds who participated in that round. Winning dog(s) will be declared only after Master of Hounds has checked the scorecard(s) and the official announcement is made by UKC.
13. Challenging a Judge’s Call. When Hunting Judges are used follow the procedures outlined in the Official UKC Coonhound Rulebook for questioning a Hunting Judge. If question is not resolved refer to Item A below. When Nonhunting Judges are used refer to item A below.
A. Request that the Judge place a written question mark on the scorecard at the time that the challenge is made;
B. Immediately deposit $25.00 with the Judge;
C. Go with the Judge and members of his or her Cast to the Master of Hounds as soon as the Cast is over and state the facts and rules upon which the challenge is based. No challenge will be considered by the Master of Hounds after a period of THIRTY (30) minutes has elapsed from the time that the scorecard has been turned in. Should the Master of Hounds agree with the challenge by the participant, the $25.00 deposit will be refunded.
D. If the participant disagrees with the Master of Hounds decision and wishes to further pursue the challenge, a UKC Formal Complaint Form must be submitted within THIRTY (30) minutes after the posted time of deadline for return of scorecards.
E. A meeting will then be conducted by a Formal Complaint Committee comprised of THREE (3) disinterested persons appointed by the host club to hear the challenge. The Committee’s decision shall be by majority vote of the THREE (3) Committee persons. Should the Committee agree with the challenge, the participant will receive a refund of the $25.00; if they
disagree with the challenge, the $25.00 deposit will be forfeited. The Committee’s decision as to the interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules is final and binding; UKC has the authority and right to modify or overrule the Committee only if UKC is presented with or discovers new information or facts that were not presented to the Committee consistent with UKC’s inherent rights and authority.
14. UKC and host club are not responsible for loss, accidents or theft. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages, firearms or unprescribed drugs will be allowed on the grounds or while participating in the hunt or in the buildings the day of a UKC licensed event.
