Mini Slam at A.O.

Was curious about the money figures on the mini slam. There was 117 dogs entered i believe or real close. Thats $3510.... If you won your cast you got your $30 back so thats roughly 30 cast.... So thats $900 off the $3510 for a grand total of $2610... They gave 4 places of $325 a piece for a total of $1300. Take $2610-$1300=$1310. Where did $1,310 go????? Someone made pretty good money and it wasnt the dog or the handler. JMO

Jonah the slam percentages as they pertain to the total income was laid out a long time ago. The prize money at a slam hunt is 55% which was the same as the other popular money hunt organization at the time. Not sure if their percentages are still the same or not. The club retains 25% which is more than the other organization at the time. The UKC recording fee is 10% which is less than the other organization. And 10% also goes to the Youth Fund which finances the Scholarships that we give away each year at the Youth Nationals.

Sounds like the club takes advantage to me. Wasnt sure the % but now it makes sence. $30 dollars dont get you much after the time, gas, and money you have in it to only win $300. Our cast and the cast that won had to drive an hour and a half into Ohio. If i would of known that i would have only won $300 i probably would not of entered. Plus there were not pics recognizing the event winners.

Since I dont know the equations. What would the other 2 registries pay out for 117 dogs @ $30.00?

Maybe they should NOT have split. What were the scores anyway? thnks

todd your numbers are off

pkc gives back 68% not 55%. ukc also keeps 20% not 10% I know you say the other is for the kids but it is ukc keeping it and saying they are giving it to the kids. The pkc club gets 20% the ukc club gets 25%.The way it looks to me ukc is keeping much more than pkc is keeping.

If u want money go to pkc, i hunt for fun thats why i hunt ukc... pkc guys will kill u for forty bucks, thats what nice about ukc no one will kill for a trophy

This was UKC and there wasnt a trophy involved. I hunted and had fun just thought more money would be given out, but that was the first money event i have been to and probably the last!!

Sorry Tanner. I only know that way back when we set it up, we used the same payback % and tried to build more in for the club. Maybe it's time to revisit those percentages? And UKC does not "keep" 20%. We keep 10%. Maybe I need to do a better job letting everyone know at Youth Nationals time that the scholarships are compliments of all the Slam entries. Not a problem. That's a good thing. I can do that. Thanks for the heads up.
