Lighted collar vs reflective materials

How does everyone like the new led lighted collars?
I’ve been using the reflective material on the tracking collar antenna and you can see great in the head lights.

I don’t like the idea of two bulky collars but wouldn’t mind it if it actually would increase their chance of being seen by a moving vehicle. I was thinking of getting the tracking/led collar (all in one) but have heard it will eat batteries.

Here are my questions:

Is the led collar that much better then the reflective tape?
Will it actually show up better than the reflective material when hit with artificial lights?

I got a couple of the new Marshall tracking collars that have the lights built into them.....and I'll not turn a dog loose without one.

Two different advantages that I see....

1. I know what the dog is doing if it is anywhere close to where I am at. Just last night I turned a dog loose and he was "loafing" just out of range of my light. I could see that blue light standing in one spot, but when I turned my light on, I could not see the dog. The dog had a wide reflective strip on his collar, and it was invisible as well....I turned my light off and schooled him a little...great training aid!

2. If a dog is off to the side of the road, not directly in the beam of a headlight, these lighted tracking collars are bright enough for someone to see them, and slow down trying to figure out what that light is.....which would make it easier to avoid hitting the dog if it did make it to the road.

I agree, lighted collars are hands down better than reflective collars. You can get a lighted collar with a relective band on it...best of both worlds. Here's my take on lighted collars though...in my opinion nobody makes a decent one yet. Everyone keeps having troubles with theirs. Right now, I have a Magnum blue collar. One bulb stopped working...but it still has 2 that light up. They are NOT rugged enough n my opinion and I know others who will tell you the same thing. But, while they work...you can feel safe. I turn my light off and watch the blue light moving through the woods...you get a good idea whats going on and also know what direction your dogs are headed.

I don't like the reflective collars. I use the one that slides over the antenna.

Can you see it in the headlights at a high rate of speed?

Does it eat batteries?

Where did you get the tracking/led collar from and how much?

Which color LED can you see the best in headlights?

Marshall makes one with lights built in the tracker. I have a new one and have been using it a little over a month (about 4 nights a week of hunting) and the batteries are still going strong. A couple of AA batteries a month won' t break a man I hope! I wouldn't turn one I care about loose without one.

I loved my lighted collars till the sealed batteries went bad with minimal use and the magnets still in. Now I have two pieces of junk.

I have used the reflective collars and the lighted collars.. I much prefer the lighted collars. What I do, since I have some pups that still run with shock collars on, is put the shocker on the lighted collar. I also have nameplates on the lighted collars and have run with older dog with just that and their tracker (also nameplates on them)...

i own 2 of the sunburst saturns they are a little big but have had super luck out of them, i like using them on young dogs to see what they are doing,

Must be pretty bright.... Hope my dogs don't get use to it wouldn't want them needing a light to see in the dark...lol

I have a blue, a red, a green, and an orange collar. I turned them on in the dark and simply "backed off" of them in a direct line of site.

While the red one seems "brighter", the blue is hands down easier to see....not sure why, but you can see it further. Maybe that is because there is nothing 'blue" in nature. There are reds, greens and oranges, but blue seems to stick out...

I'd certainly look into a blue lighted collar if I were only to have one.

Toooooooo late bought a red one. I wonder how the blue stands out in a headlight that has blue in it.

If I like this one I'll buy a blue.

Wow, I've got a blue Marshall and I don't hunt every night but have used it way more than 2 nights and haven't had to change the battery's yet. What color do you have?

the paperwork for my marshall collar said that the blue and green last longer than the other 2 colors. I have used mine more than a dozen times now and still on the first set of batteries.

my Marshall is blue and i hunted hard for over a month before having to change batteries.

Have used both and the lighted collers are the way to go!! I have a Foggy Top coller and like it. Those things really show up good through the timber.

buy blue or red thats the color of police car sirens most will slow down some then too see what is goin on

one of my huntin buddies has a blue marshall collar and his lasts along time i've got a red one that is terrible
