Leaves in a run, no piss'in or smell'in around the truck. Knows instinctively where coons are and strikes honest. Barks in a different spot everytime moving the track forward. Doesn't take too long to settle on a tree, when they bark treed you can go to em. Tree regaurdless of what other dogs are doing and backs up and sits down if the tree gets crowded
Has the meat. NO TRASH RUNNING. Don't want to have to catching them trailing most turn outs.

Prefer a loud mouth, bawl on track, three long locates and about 60 barks a minute on the tree. Independent, No babbler and no tight mouth dogs, no face barkers or growling.

I been in this long enough to know better than to even dream about perfection. On the other hand, I do know what I like. But for me it is all about winning (which is something I don't do much of). I care less about what I like and more about what will win.
A loud ringing chop mouth that starts out of the box and stops when they are pulled off the tree. I like them to be lonely and good about having a coon. If they cover, they gotta cover quick. And short of getting ate up, they better stay no matter what, even if they are wrong.

Barks off the leash, keeps their mouth open, run some fast game, but will break off and tree coons, be by themselves everytime, make it a point to get away from everything, if anything does try to cover I want it to run it off, no hitchhikers allowed!!!!!!!! So we have an automatic strike dog that will run junk and get other dogs started on it, but mine wil leave it and tree a coon while others are now hooked on junk have a coon alone when you get to him and if anthing does cover he will make it leave and cause you some minus, long walk to him with the gease most everytime. Smells like a winner to me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly I like a last strike dog alone everytime very accurate track dog tree power is least important to me, good handle on him, no hard headed ness hunts deep and alone, go silent on track if anything trys to get with him and get away from them and tree the coon. 100% independence is a must and accuracy is very important I do not have time for slick trees I will not put up with it. Pack dog/me tooer, bucket dog, slick treer or possums= dead dog @ my house!! Jeremiah Glaze

To me, the Perfect hound, is one that handles well and Checks in frequently, also wont honor another hound on any kind of trash what so ever. Is not Mean at all, and can tree one Coon after another all night long, and have the meat.

With a Hound like that, you can train and break anything.
Only saw one like that in my life, and she died the same day as her Master.

blue, coondawg, good looking hound, big mouth track, loud flat chop tree, top track dog, no loose mouth, strikes quick, one bark tree dog, will get treed when sent most every time, split tree often but covers quick, plans on staying treed, no trash, etc... I can win with this type hound.

As a friend once said, "I didn't marry and ugly woman and I sure as h*ll ain't going to hunt an ugly dog!"

If I don't like the looks of a dog from the get go, then it don't stand a chance in my kennel.

Its a Sad Shame though, that often times, the Ugly Hound, is the best Coondog.
I prefer a Good looking Hound too though. How do you like the looks of mine?

The Perfect Dog

Is going to be different for everyone. I like to competition hunt, but there is no perfect dog and never will be one. I like a quick honest strike dog and a one bark tree dog. They can slip up a time or two as long as they have the heart and desire to make it up before the two hours are up. I guess you can say i just like excitment in a dog, no 45 minute tracks. Just soon go to a slick tree. Dont want a slick treeing fool though, I just want them to try to work a track but spend the whole hunt doing it. The bottom line is get what you like to hunt and feel confident in the hunts with. THey don't half to go 2 miles by themselves to win hunt either, or be split everytime. If you like it and it will tree a coon you will win your part, or if your pleasure hunter it should be simple answer. Hunt what gives you pleasure, not the ideal of some big name person that tells you what the perfect dog is.
