Good Or Bad?????

We have a big yard fenced in, with dog kennels inside of the fence. Is it good to let the dogs out and run all day. Or do u think it will effect there hunting at all. This is kinda a stupid quenstion but i was just wandering.

I don't think that it will affect their hunting. We have the same set up, but I keep mine in the kennel during the day and let them out from about 6 until 9 if they aren't going to be hunted that night. If they are, I leave them in the kennel so that they are rested up.

One of the better coondogs ever born (NT CH Martins Missouri Boomer) was allowed to run loose on the farm at his leisure his whole life.

Richard Messersmith also had an old female that qualified in top 20 UKC world twice, that also ran completely loose her whole life.

Neither dog was ever penned up or tied up, except when Dean Martin had a team penning and ole boomer got put in a kennel. Poor ole dog really hated it too.

We have a 2 fenced acres that my kennels are in.. I let my hound out to run around when I get home... Keep some of the excess energy burned off and keeps them from getting so bored in the kennel... I did have to hot fence the top of it since I have a couple fence climbers... but on the whole I like them to be able to run around... I don't even kennel my pups until they are about 6 months old or more.. Just depending on what type of mischief they get into...

Hasn't effected my dogs hunting at all..

I have 4 1/2 acreas fenced with hog wire and topped with a hot wire. My dogs run loose the majority of the time unless I hunting them hard. You have to come past the dogs to reach the house so they get attention. Just can't keep flowers or cats.

My hound is a housedog

We have a fenced yard, with flower gardens inside the fence. The fence is five foot hogwire. He runs loose within the yard and comes in and out of the house whenever he wants. He occasionally buries a bone in the garden or lies on top of some flowers, but on the whole he's pretty good about that. He's in great shape and always wins line at the field trials because he is FAST. He also does a good job of keeping the bears and the yotes away from the house. Doesn't let deer in the yard either--couldn't have the flowers without him.
On the other hand, he does bark treed when he's playing in the yard. I feel I have to go out and check whenever he does, and he knows it. He will bay up a snake, a bird, a toad, or whatever, just to get me out there. He's pretty accurate in the woods--doesn't tree anything dang silly like that when he's hunting even if he finds an occasional porky or whatever.

It really doesn't matter if you keep them on a chain, or allow them to run loose. It is DESIRE to tree coon that causes them to punch a hole in the dark when turned loose on a hunt. If they have it..... you can't stop them. If they don't.......you can't teach it.
