Posted by Christy on 08-02-2007 08:31 PM:

Why do people do this?

WE GOT A CALL A WEEK OR SO AGO FROM SOMEONE THAT HAS A YOUNG DOG OUT OF SID THAT WAS STARTING PRETTY GOOD.

QUINCY TALKED TO HIM, AND THEN THE GUY ASKED HIM WHEN COULD HE EXPECT SID TO BE A GRNTCH.

QUINCY TOLD HIM THAT HE WASNT FOCUSING ON SID RIGHT NOW, HIS PUPS WERE DOING SO WELL THAT HE WAS ENJOYING HUNTING THE ONES WE'VE STARTED AND HE WANTED TO SEE HOW THEY PROGRESSED AS THEY GOT OLDER.

THE GUY GOT MAD AND TOLD HIM THAT IF SID WAS NEVER GOING TO BE A GRNTCH THEN HE WASNT EVEN GOING TO FOOL WITH REGISTERING HIM NO MATTER HOW GOOD HE TURNED OUT.

WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS?

I CANNOT SEE THE POINT.

I'M JUST DUMBFOUNDED.

Thats just the way folks are.... Might as well get used to it !!!! Papers mean everything to some folks...Just like I am not gonna get a pup thats not performanced and superstaked but I know that going in.. I would not start one and then just let it go cause its daddy was not a grandnight.

Tell him to do whatever he wants with him, there are more people with good Sid pups than him. He's probably wanting ya'll to offer to buy the pup back

titles

titles make the dog stand out...a coondog is a coondog, but in this world today more are lookin for titles so they can throw all grand litters in the future...take the good with the bad..

I can kinda see the guys point.

Let me try to word this so as to not ruffle any feathers, that's not the intention here.

Why does it matter to you if the guy registers the dog or not?

My guess is so that when the dog turns out, you (acutally Sid) gets credit for it. And Sid would certainly deserve that credit. But that's just to promote his "title" as a 'reproducer'. So, it just comes back to titles.

or maybe he was under the impression that you were going to finish the dog.

I am at a point right now where I am debating on whether to finish mine to GRNITE. Sure, he can do it. But it'll probably take some time. He's a nice dog, but not one of the powerhouses that can finish in 5 or 6 NiteCh casts. Is it worth the time and expense to do it?? So I understand why you might not want to.

Maybe true, but as time goes on, a titled dog out of titled dogs is what is worth a good amount of money when it is all said and done. With the absolute glut of pups available at any one given time why would you not choose one with titled parents if given the choice and they were the same price.

Lets face it, it takes A LOT of time, and money to turn a PR dog into a Grand Night. If you put all of this effort in and you want to stud or breed the dog people are always gonna look at that pedigree before they make a decision to breed or buy a pup. If they can get all grand for the same price as a pup out of your dog that isn't, you arn't going to make back much of your investment.

If all you want is a dog to hunt, then raise and train whatever you want. If you want to raise and train a pup to sell or make money off of, be sure you know what is behind it before you even think about buying one because if it isn't all grand, it just lost a pile of value

I am not saying that this is what happen in your case but alot of stud owners sell pups of Nt Ch males and females and all the buyer hears is "I am going to finish the dog to Grand." But like Briar said it is a money game anymore and people it is harder to sell just a real nice coondog today when you can take an average or below average all grand and double your money.

I dont think all grands are for new people. I think $1,000 pup prices are. I think these breeders have these prices as penaltied for them not knowing that you have trained a top pup. I imagine to the right people the price drops drastically.

Man i wasnt trying to say you were wrong. Both are just opinions. I understand exactly what you mean. I think Tim Ball's ads are meant for beginners. He no doubt has some good dogs, but anyone that has been around coonhunting very much knows that all that World's Greatest 3-Generation pedigree stuff is a bunch of crap, and that his dogs couldnt possibly live up to his hype. But there are good Top All-Grands out there. Some are his, some are not. But a hound is only going to be so good. All you can ask is that the dog leave out hunting a coon, and get treed under one everytime. Anything else is just chrome wheels and custom paint. Its up to the owner to find the model he likes.(Forgive the metaphor)

IF I WAS SERIOUS ABOUT BREEDING A STUD, I WOULD FINISH HIM OUT TO GR NITE CH. GRANTED, IT DOESN'T PROVE ANYTHING IN THE BREEDING PEN, BUT IT DOES PROVE THE DOG CAN WIN AGAINST A LITTLE STIFFER COMPETION THAN IN THE REGISTERED CAST. IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN 2 STUDS AND THEY WERE EQUAL IN EVERY WAY, AND ONE WAS GR NITE CH AND THE OTHER WAS NITE CH, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE? WITH AS LOW OF TURNOUTS AS CLUBS ARE HAVING THESE DAYS IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT HARD TO FINISH HIM, SHOULD IT???

I am going to agree with StagCreek. If I was serious about promoting a stud, he would certainly be a GRNITE, then I wouldn't have to worry about stuff like this.

That being said, I know papers don't tree coons.

Here is a little of my history: I have never owned a dog out of a GRNITE stud.

Current dog: NiteCh out of NiteCh male x GrNite Female.

Last pup: I bought a pup for $75. he was out of a 'pr' male and NiteCh female. I sold him and have been trying to buy him back since.

Prior dog: NiteCh out of NiteCh male x GrNite Female.

Hey Christy

I had the same thing happen to me and I had folk tell me until I Granded Max they would not register their pups and they didn't until after I Granded him. Papers do mean a lot to some folks. Everybody likes to know what kind of stock they are getting I guess. You see I see his point for when this pup gets older and maybe he has a litter of pups and say he Grands this pup out that is off Sid. People go to looking at the papers and say why wasn't this Dogs Dad Granded. Was he mean or was he not good enough to Grand. All types of things go through folks head believe me I have heard a lot. I had two pups brought back to me cause I didn't Grand Max out fast enough to suit them but hey life goes on. Christy when dealing with human beings you can expect anything. There are all kinds out there. Good luck with Sids Pups and Sid. Take care.

PS
Why you think I got me a couple of Walker Dogs
at my house now. Them Walker folk love to pay big bucks
for a well bred hound. Believe me I seen $5000 change hands in my driveway for a dog that I walked to 14 slick trees in a row with and told the man what he as doing and he said I can win with him. He now lives in Ohio. He was well bred not saying what he was out of but one of the most Famous crosses ever by Walkers. Enough Said.
