Roll Over Beethoven

I read Guy Ormiston's article in the August Bloodlines last night and it rolled around in my head all night. I re-read it this morning in my "library" if you know where I mean.

I think Guy hit hard on a point about insane tree dogs. He quoted Delmar Hopkins book Breeding For Traits "A top tree hound doesn't go insane at the tree: climbing, chewing, face barking, fighting, diving, slobbering, etc. Dogs that do this are not real tree dogs, just tree barkers and a nuisance to friends and thier dogs. Dogs of this type may look good to a amantur handler...."

It does however make a good colored picture in the magazines to help sell puppies and stud fee breedings.

Competition hunters seem to forget the trailing ability of a hound these days. "Tree my dog" has become like a drug, the more I get the more I want.
