big coon

i got a live trap coon from a farmer today, and it's a big boar, i was wondering how much weight do you think a coon will put on before hibernation. i weighed this coon at 42 pounds in the live trap, i figure my trap weihgs 5 to 7 #'s that put the coon at 35 to 37 #'s how big do you think he would be in mid november.

Always seems the biggest coons go in the smallest traps. Got a fellow down the road that traps em for me and the biggest coon will be in the little trap and the smallest in the big trap. Thats a BIG coon you got there.

I dont know...if you let him go in an area and offer it feed until fall, it could reach 20 pounds or a little more. He's a nice one.

Wade 2 years ago i had coon getting into my bear bait up north here and i live trapped one that was 54 pounds and this was in the end of september i have a pic of it and was looking at it the other day and the dog dish in the pic is bout the same size as the coons head got it in a 35 by 12 trap and you couldn't see day light through the trap just fur lol but that coon there will be nice and big by fall

Posted by mjflores on 07-26-2007 01:54 PM:

I HAVE to see the pic of the 54 pounder!

Posted by BIGCASTLEDAWGS on 07-26-2007 02:20 PM:

WOW!

We don't grow them like that here in MA! We're Just getting them back now after distemper took them years ago and Darn it isn't there RABIES one town over in a coon!?!!! Grrr...
That's a nice one and healthy! If I saw one like that around here I'd be thrilled...or Scared! LOL.... We did have a 20 lb POSSUM.... apparently they thrive despite humans.
Keep OPEN LANDS and fight hard to keep hunting alive! Those of us who live closer to the cities see first hand how growth is killing off nature!

Happy Hunting! Heather

I've never even heard of a coon weighing 54 lbs. Down here in Ky a 20 lb coon is a big one. I know they are a lot bigger up North but 54 lbs.

In Minnesota a farmer/landowner can trap/ hunt coon on his own property any time of year.

Posted by Donnie Stevens on 07-26-2007 05:21 PM:

That must be a big live trap.
