We treed about 90 to 100 and shot out about 35 of the bigger ones. I skinned the bigger ones and got a $9 average. I never shoot them all and never more than one from a tree or maybe just one a night. No reason to be greedy, there just not worth that much and the reason we go is to train dogs, not to be hide hunt. Also, I try to not kill more than 2 or 3 from a section of land to leave some for next year.

hides

we actually did very well , but we try to kill only big coon and only after they prime up . We averaged sixteen dollars across the board for the ones we sold. Then we sent the others we call them slate or blue to the tannery and sell them at our store for forty apeice . The tanninng cost nine dollars apeice if you send 15 or more

We shot maybe 1 out of every 4 or 5 coon treed and averaged $9 per hide. We didn't hunt very hard, maybe 3-4 nights a week....

Its not about money to me, its all about the sport. Will never get rich selling hides anyway. Wanna make money sell a real nice started dog.
I shot around 60. Could have shot 200 at least. Not my game though. Lots of people brag on how many they got. I swear they are just trying to out score there buddies! Around here we would run out of coon if to many did this along with the shinners!

i agree Bryan. if it was for the money im in the wrong business because my bank account drops five times as much as it grows in a year. i remeber my grand dad telling me sotries of how he was able to buy a car with the money he made from hide hunting in on seasons time. (mind you this was back with hide were extremely high)but he also said it would have changed things if hides were 10 dollars a piece he would still be out there running hounds. i just think its neat to see how much people brought in, in a years time.

Same here. I mean we shoot an occasional coon, maybe once a month out to the dogs, and then with puppies we shoot a couple out but besides that we let them be, ive seen where people go all out shooting everything and make the spot from a 4 coon a night spot to a lucky if you tree 1 coon a night spot.
