Purina Pro Plan vs. Purina Hi Pro

For those people who feed purina, which do you feed, the pro plan or hi pro and why? I read this morning on their websites that the Pro Plan Performance is 30/20 and Hi Pro is 27/15, what is your take on these two brands of dog food?

Posted by patches on 07-22-2007 03:04 PM:

we feed the hi pro. i would love to feed the pro plan but the cost is way out of my reach at the moment.
but the way that purina keeps upping the price on their feed i think they should give us more points per pound in the pro club. we desearve a raise too for our loyalty in keep feeding it even after the huge price increases.

I also feed and sell Hi Pro, have fed Pro Plan, we still do to our house dog, but Hi Pro is a great feed for the money, I would have to say that One is probably a closer comparison to Pro Plan, But anyway,,Patches we sell it here for $16.00/ 50#, it is however raising pretty regular at Tractor Supply, about $18.98,we have been fortunate enough to only have to raise it .50 cents in the last several months... Take care

SAVE THE COON, HUNT WITH A HOUND!

Hi-Pro , Dog Chow , Diamond , Black Gold , Pedigree , etc ..... all junk ... it's just flavored up corn flakes .

Pro-Plan , Purina One , Bil-Jac .... those are real dog foods with real ingredients that you can see make a difference when you work your dogs.

There is no comparison between Hi-Pro and Pro-Plan ... one is dog food and the other is Cornmeal.

Show and hunting dogs eat Pro-Plan. It has always worked for us, dogs look and feel good. My 11 year old Rottweiler eats the Dog Chow for Senior dogs. The Rottie was raised on Purina and has done real good on it. Jessica

I dont see how any of the old time hounds ever lived past a couple years old, since..they were feeding these cornflakes or junk food,,,,LOL..!!! Back then they didnt make Pro-Plan, One, or any of the other over-priced dog foods..

I have tried Pro-Plan and Purina One and could not tell any dif results from what I feed now...which is Pride and Hi-Standard..just my thought.......................Tim

I feed Hi Pro until my female is going to have pups then I feed ProPlan. I have very good luck with both until I just paid $21 for a bag of Hi Pro. I'm thinking about changing because of the price.

By the way, Hi Pro is a meat base dog food,.

I have fed Pro Plan on and off,it's real good feed but it's got expensive lately, they offer several blends (26/16,26/12,26/9,/30/20,and puppy) and several ingredient choices.

I feed HI-PRO it cost me $21.00 a bag. pro plan is $39.50 a bag. i go through 1 bag every week. so if i feed pro-plan it would cost me over $80.00 a week to feed my dogs. (pro plan is 32 pound bag i think) and my dogs look great and plenty of energy on good cornmeal. so i beleive i'll stick to cornmeal...

You can feed alot less ProPlan to your dogs .. which means less stool and it's easier on their system.

If you hunt hard , there is no comparison between ProPlan and the others ... you can really see the difference.

Also ... soak your feed in water . That swelling you see happens inside the dog and the water it takes to swell the feed comes from your dogs body ... not good.

We tried Hi Pro and Dog Chow-- don't like either one of them. I love Purina One. Pro Plan is also an awesome feed. The pups do extremely well on Purina One Puppy and seem to like Purina Puppy as well but the Hi Pro and Dog Chow provided toooooo much stool and not enough go power. The dogs didn't like it so we don't feed it.

How would PETA like this? -- My dad used to buy frozen "Hills" horsemeat in 50 and 100 lb boxes. I think he mixed it with dry (probably Purina) food. His dogs had wonderful coats and never had any skin probs.

I only have a couple of dogs but, I've finished a bunch of dogs on Proplan.

I feed Achieve dog food. I feed Active as of now It is made by Land of Lakes who also makes Purina in this area. They have many different formulas at different prices.
Active protein 27% fat 12% no soy
Preformance 26% 18%
Elite 30% 20%
My dogs like it They look good and I trust the company.

I switched to Pro Plan and I have already seen a difference in stamina and clean up around the pen.

purina

The price just went up here $2.00 a bag on every version of the purina feed, Purina is distancing themselves from the common man, Not a good idea!!! The purina dog chow in a 50lb. bag will cost you a $20.00 bill including tax in Morganton.N.C.

thats what dog chow and hi pro will cost you here. they just raised the prices on their cat food today some to over a dollar a box. i agree, purina is starting to be a rich man's dog food and out of the common man's reach. not a good idea. most people with sporting dogs aren't rich.

All I know it the Pro Plan is 34.95 to 37.95 a 40lbs bag here.. I only feed it to my puppies and nursing females.. All my other dogs eat Black Gold and love it...

Too bad the Pro Plan costs so much.. I like it..

That is how I feel. I used to feed the Pro Plan, but it got WAY too expensive, quick!! I changed to Black Gold and the dogs have been doing just fine on it. I have no complaints about Black Gold. But with Purina's weight circles, I feel like I am getting something back!! I may actually not, but in my head it makes makes more sense.

I will start with Hi-Pro the next time I buy feed.

I normally feed the Pro Plan Performance, but I switched to Purina One Lamb Meal and Rice, and I love it. With the rebate check, it is $19.00 for 37 lbs. But I only feed 3 dogs on it.
