It stands for Youth Education Program. It's a UKC program that helps to get clubs to have hunts for youth at thier clubs!

Kalamazoo, Michigan, March 6, 2007 – United Kennel Club is pleased to announce the introduction of the UKC Youth Education Program, offering free educational courses to youth throughout the country in all areas of responsible coonhound ownership including proper raising, handling and training.

The UKC Youth Education Program, more commonly known as ‘YEP’, focuses on the care and development of the six coonhound breeds. The program is an unprecedented effort to bring together individual dog owners, event clubs and breed associations to respond directly to the needs of youth and young adults in learning the care and ownership techniques unique to coonhounds.

With the help of YEP sponsors Black Gold Dog Food, Tri-Tronics and Owens Products, UKC is utilizing its position as an international leader in purebred canine registration, health and development to bring the YEP program to coonhound event clubs throughout the country to help youth understand and utilize their dog’s natural abilities and inherent instincts to produce a happier, healthier, better performing dogs.

The program connects youth interested in learning about coonhounds together with seasoned dog owners, breeders and specialists from within their own area to learn skills and techniques for raising the best possible dogs. ‘YEP’ uses kid-friendly instruction, real world experience and hands-on demonstrations to provide a unique and meaningful experience for any young dog lover.

Initially, the UKC Youth Education Program is available, at no charge, to established UKC Coonhound event clubs anywhere in America. Anyone interested in bringing the UKC Youth Education Program to the youth in their area can call the UKC Coonhound Department at (269) 343-9020 to learn more.
