Nite Hunt 8 Minute Rule Question
Four dog cast, all dogs are struck in. All dogs go silent for a while and judge starts the eight. Do you have to stay in that spot till the eight is broken or can you move up to try to hear the dogs better? Just something that happened the other night on a cast I was on and wondering how it should have been called.
I have always heard that you have to stay at the point of where you last heard the dogs. I anit sure if that is right or not thought.

I couldn't tell you for sure......but I know here in these mountains of Eastern Ky, If you don't move closer....you would never here them. I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed to move. It is crazy to get caught by the 8 if your dog is still running.

I would say it is up the judge or a majority of the cast. The rulebook doesn't specify anything on this one.
WALKING A LITTLE WAYS SHOULD BE ACCEPTABLE TO ANYONE. BUT I HAVE BEEN ON CASTS WERE ONE OR MORE HANDLERS WANT TO WALK A 1/2 MILE TO HEAR THEIR DOGS. THAT IS GOING WAY OVERBOARD WITH IT. U CAN TELL A LOT BY THE WAY THE TRACK WAS BEING RUN IF THEY RAN OUT OF HEARING OR MAYBE JUST GOT TO TOUGH TO HANDLE. JMO RONNIE HILL

i would
say start the 8 where you last heard them then maybe move to a high point in the direction you heard them last. but i would not walk a good piece without knowing which direction to go.. that could hurt you as much as help you locating the dogs!!
