Bear Brook Midnight Cruiser

He's really been turning it up lately...he's gonna break some hearts at the hunts!! I'm awful proud of him, he hunts hard, super fast, super loud with a locate that'll make the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention. He's my buddy, here's a few pics from tonight.

Plus it!!!

Hi Heather, and thanks!

I have been getting to hunt Friday and Saturday nights. The coon population is getting stronger up here so it's been a blast. I'm seeing good dog work, treed coons, and knock on wood..nothing crazy!

This is Cruiser, he's out of local dogs. A dog my friend used to have (Dual Grand Dimond's Solitude MT Grinner), and a female that his brother's old dog sired (Deer Valley Jillian). It's a good line of dogs. A few of his littermates are also doing well, I know of one that is a nice bear dog in VT. and doing a great job so I hear. We'll probably hear more from the littermates as they progress.

I wasn't planning on going to AO, but I'd really like to some day. It seems fun, and a great chance to meet alot of people face to face that I've met on this board. English days is another...gonna try to get to that next year. Are you bringing any of your dogs with you when you guys head out there?

Nick is doing great, his little smile has me hooked by the heart! I'll send some pics of him soon. As always, if you're ever in my neck of the woods do stop by. You're always welcome, and I have some really good coonhunting starting about 300yds. from my kennels! I'm a lucky man!

Very Lucky Dude!

With a kid like Nick and all the Other stuff too. I thought that might be the "Grinner" son. I have vague memory of you telling me a bit about Cruiser. Awesome you've been getting out each weekend!!! Glad the coon pop. is picking up. We just had to kill another that was killing chickens. It was one year Exactly from the last one! This one was a healthy male. I was pleased to see another...but REAL grumpy about how it left my hen.... Been seeing evidence of them here and there too and some roadkill over the RI border. It appears they are coming back from the distemper finally. Too bad there is NO open land here.
Still do plan to get up there to meet you guys. Was hoping to get to some New Eng. Event but I'm not as healthy as I'd expected. BUT.... a LOT of improvements. I figure AO will knock me out completely but..... I CAN'T WAIT!
Glad Cruiser is turning it on for ya! Can' wait to see pix of Nick and of course some more hound pix as well! Enjoy that little tot... I'd love to give you my TEEN boys....and deal with a baby....
Have a great night, HappyHunting, Heather

Oops... PS...

...FOrgot to answer your ?! Not planning on bringing any doggies from home to AO. There is a Chance if Russ gets to make the trip he'll be showing his "Bum" pup. He may Bring "Liddy" our female so I can meet her in person. He isn't planning on showing her there. It would just be a visit. Of course I could care less about meeting the dawg... we can't wait to meet RUSS in real life!
On the way Back from IN to MA I'm not sure what we'll have in crate??? We'll do transports for BnT rescue if needed. We will NOT take ANY of the cute little puppies home to MA with us....LOL... Wont take any old dawgs home with us either! NO live things!!!
Hope you get there next year AND Eng Days!
Have a good one! Heather

he looks alot like his brother ranger --

ranger hasnt treed any coon -never hunted in the dark - just an ol bear dog lol

he never was a pup really-- just did it - what i like best about him is he is just a good ol dog -no trash , no fights -- ,a great mannered dog --real easy to live with-- i know what u mean when u say cruiser is your buddy - thats how ranger is too -- lol
i think somebody ought to make that cross again -- lol

Pete...

... You be sure Ranger keeps those bears up that way away from ME! I think it's awesome to see the brothers do so well and do it different as well! Coonhounds are awesome, so versatile!
Handsome too! Have fun with them, HappyHUnting!Heather

Hi Pete, Ranger is a handsome looking hound! I think he looks a little more like the old man Grin than my Cruiser does. Nice build on him.

I know what you mean about never being a pup. Cruiser never went through that goofy playful stage that pups hit and seems to last forever. I started hunting him when he was around 8 months old, and he was a deep hard hunting dog from the get go. We had our trash problems! He's been quilled 3 times, never anything bad but quills none the less. We had a tailgate discussion about that and I'd honestly be surprised if he did it again. With a young dog you never know though. He took a liking to coyote this past winter, so I buzzed him on a long track this winter, and then got a fresh coyote to set him up on this early spring. Two quick buzzes with the Tritronics and now I've seen him watch coyotes in the woods and not seem like he wanted to run them. I was there so who knows what he was really wanting to do had I not been there. He watches deer from his kennel at night..and moose and has never barked. I'm knocking on wood as I type this lol..the last bunch of times out he's been coon minded and either treed one or come back in after a reasonable time which I do prefer.

As for being easy to live with, same here. You wouldn't know he was out there. He never barks in his kennel or box, keeps the kennel clean, and is just a joy to have and hunt with.

I agree..someone we know should have held on to that dog (wink, wink WD!) and studded him. Grin seemed to pour 100% of himself into his pups. If that cross was made again I'd get one.

Does Ranger load into the truck? Or do you have to pick him up? I have to pickup Cruiser..and Grin is like that too. I wonder if thats a genetic trait! haha.

I can make that cross again but one of you guys are going to have to raise the litter! LOL, wd

Posted by treesolid on 07-17-2007 02:59 AM:

wayne.. you make the cross.. and she can whelp at my house.

Posted by dogfaceNH on 07-17-2007 03:06 AM:

Oh boy! Kelly, I think you ought to cross your female (Marge?) with Pete's male (Ranger) out of Grinner, just give me a nice male out of that cross and it will save me a heck of alot of running around, lol.

Posted by dogfaceNH on 07-17-2007 03:19 AM:

Kelly

Or to make it easy I could cross Grinner with the NTCH female I have now out of Stylish Harry and a Duel Grand bitch out of Stylish Banjo. Most accurate, easy handling bitch I've ever owned. As long as you, Pete and MJFlores promise to buy a pup, we're all set. Due in heat Sept or Oct, whatcha think???? wd

Posted by treesolid on 07-17-2007 02:07 PM:

hey wayne...john E has female out of grinner.. he bred to bo... in a year or so.. if male pup out of that is goin good.. i want to cross him with my audrey pup... she was a yr the first part of may.. been on oh... 15 or so bear trees this yr.. just cranking..she is out of bo and suzy.. suzy goes back to tri color tom tom.. as does grin i think.. and male being out of bo.. and audrey out of bo.. would be half brother half sister.. but also the tom tom blood on both sides... im waiting for that cross...

Here's another pic of Cruiser getting it done, this was just before he turned 1 year old.

Kelly

Looks like that cross should work. I gave a pup to a friend of mine a few years back that is out of my old NTCH PKC CH Tri County Drive dog. He is out of WLDNTCH Loomacres Jasper who is out of WLDNTCH Tri Color Tom Tom. Deanwood Drifter bred on the bottom. I'm seriously thinking about breeding this old Stylish Harry NTCH bitch I have to him. The pedigree would be filled with old incredible stuff as far as I'm concerned. Yes Grinner was out of Grntch Tri Color Jack who was out of Tom Tom. Pretty tough to beat much that goes back to him. Hard driving, never quit dogs from the many that I've hunted with. As of today I still use Drive as my measuring stick, I have yet to find a dog that was as complete as he was. Treed his own in the wild at 7 months old like he'd been doing it for years and stayed for as long as it took to get to him. I don't think he ever missed and was a one way hunter. Not for the faint of heart thats for sure. wd

Wayne, are you not breeding Dolly to Kong?

Cruiser is always here for ya buddy!

Mike

Posted by dogfaceNH on 07-18-2007 09:17 PM:

If Kong is in NY when she comes in then yes, if he is not in NY then I'm leaning toward the son of my old Drive dog. He's a cocker but just pleasure hunted. wd
