When You Think Of A Good Breeder.....

If you use the definition of a breeder as someone that has several outstanding females (and maybe a stud dog also) that raises a couple litters of pups every year, has an established line of dogs and a reputation of producing top hounds, who would you like to see recognized?

Not looking for someone who is known to always stand a nice stud dog. Wanting some ideas on those that raise a few litters of pups every year and have built a solid line. Help me out.

how bout allan white with the nightrider/wagner line of dogs? alot go to pleasure hunters or big game hunters so you dont hear so much of the name around the show/hunts but alot of the black and tans stream back to that line some where in their pedigree

Suggestions...

I'm most familiar with the Plott breed and will limit my suggestions to those who are raising Plotts for Nite hunting and meet the criteria for which you asked.

If you are looking for people who are not recognized much and are making a difference in thier breed I think of two: Blueticks Dennis Shephard and Plotts Jeff Koones.

I dont think anybody has a better group of females than John T. treadwell. I think they have had and will always have the best females for hunting and breeding/reproduceing

Plott breed...

Jeff Koons and Allen Moses

But let's not forget about Eugene Walker and Curtis Walker. They've done a lot for the Plott breed as well.

3 guys in our area that are always hunting their own strain of dogs in the 3rd and 4th generation and having success are terry beyers, dale wheeler and jon podoll. some of their work has been collabaritive, some not, but they have not lost any ground from where they started, which i think is the mark of a good breeder.

Ken Adkins he has been breeding coondogs for over 30 years.and he has good solid foundation for helping the bluetick breed.

For the blues I would suggest Tony Foley. Tony has been around a lot of years and campaigned many a good one. There are a bunch of folks (including myself) who are currently enjoying the results of his many hours of effort. I am sure there are many others I am unaware of who deserve a tip of the hat also.

I would have to say for someone that don't get talked about much around me is Everett Dalton. He lives in the Blue Ridge Mtns of Virginia and has had some very good Blue dogs in the past. JMO!!!!!!

For the english breed man that's a tough one, there is several good solid breeders who meet the criteria you listed, but most of all I think I would have to go with Ron Thompson of Iowa. He has a solid line of dogs. I've never seen a dog that came from him that wasn't a coondog. The only reason you don't see more of them in the winners circle is because a lot of them went to hide hunters. We've got three out of this cross GRNTCH GRCH'Pr'Robinson's English Looser, 'Pr' Cord's Crank aka Battle Cry(1st and 2nd place UKC win only been in 5 hunts), and GRCH'PR'Timber Valley Wy(1st place UKC win). Not to mention all the other dogs who has proven themselves from his dogs. He has a nice stud dog and a couple good female. He currently has the #1 Current Reproducer for English. She has 24 pups/7 titled, 3 more with 1sts, and a couple with 2nds. Now that's sayin somethin in my book. I can guarentee you'll see more of his line of dogs in the future. Looser who is out of (FrankxCry) Both Ron's dogs finished with 3 straight NTCH wins, he won Overall high scoring dog at Boone,IA's RQE. Not only are his dogs coondogs but they're also dang good looken to. JMO.

We contacted Alan 2 times in the past 6 months about featuring him in a article and he declined both times. We'll probably try him again next year.
