Heres that tape worm story I promised/Turkey hunters read with CAUTION !!

A few years ago I decided to try my hand at turkey hunting. My first year I borrowed my friends 835 Mossberg.Called alot of turkeys in and actually missed a real nice one.Well my buddy decided his Mossberg was too much gun for me.I seen this Remington 1100 SPS and from what I know about them decided that was just the gun I needed to continue my turkey hunting career. Well I found a good deal on a new one and I was all set.Just needed to pattern it.So I still needed to use my buddy's gun and went out behind my house. Perfect morning, early morning drizzle had stopped and it was a cool morning.
First yelp off my box call I got an answer off a ridge top near a field.I had a decoy set up in a little opening about 12 yards away.I waited awhile gave another series of yelps on the call.He was a coming and he sounded hot.I got ready, here he comes .He got behind my decoy I couldn't shoot without blowing the decoy apart.Talk about nerves. He findly came around to my side and I shot him .
Boy was I happy. My first turkey. He was a beauty. Full fan mature bird.10 1/2 beard ,1 inch spurs, and 21 lbs.I had actually watched this bird several times and had been calling him Mr. Big.Well I didn't get to use my new gun .No matter I was hooked and I would just use it next year.
Well now I had to clean it.Now my buddy was working but made sure he told me the quick easy way to gut it.He instructed me to break off a stick with a small forked end .Stick the fork up into the vent ,give it a few turns and the insides would come out impelled and attached to the stick when I pulled it out.
Hey ,it worked like a charm.Unfortunately I noticed something moving.WHAT'S THIS. OOOHHHAAHH gross!!!!There was a no less then a 12 inch tape worm firmly attached along with the guts where they had ripped open and wriggling in his last thralls of death.

I gave the turkey away and now stick to Butterballs.

Anybody want a wild turkey?I never got to use my new Remington.

The only difference between that turkey and the Butterball is that SOMEONE ELSE had the pleasure of seeing what all came out of the Butterball, and the turkey you shot lived a natural life eating normal food that didn't make him grow way too fast. Buck up, hunter- worms, parasites, and disease are why we GUT and COOK our meat before we eat it.

I think that wild turkey is 10 x's better than any butterball or store bought turkey!! I had never had wild turkey until this spring and it was great!! I mean better than any turkey my mother and grandmother ever made... (just don't tell them!!)

wild vs. farm

i think i'd rather eat the meat of a wild bird that had a tape worm instead of a farm raised one injected with antibiotics and growth hormones any day
