Question...

Hello everyone I have a very important question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere else and i'm hoping that someone here can help.

My dog was recently in a fight with another dog who the owner claims was a UKC registered dog (it unfortunately had to be put down). My family is very sorry that this happened and has offered to buy the owner a new dog.

We asked the owner for the UKC papers to prove that the dog is registered so that we can get her another registered dog. The only thing the owner has provided us with is a small pink slip of paper with the letters UKC hand-written in a box that says registration, among other things on the paper. (it looks like a photo copy of something you might get at a vet's office) We do not believe that these are the registration papers as we have an AKC registered dog ourselves and know what papers should look like. This pink slip of paper is the only thing that the other owner claims to have in regards to papers for her dog.

Is there any way we can find out if this dog was indeed a UKC registered dog?

There should be a registration number on the papers if they are indeed UKC papers. If you give me that number, I can check to see if the dog is registered.

Re:

I looked on the pink slip of paper (it's only about a quarter of a sheet of letter paper) and it looks like it's from a kennel. There is a box on there that says registered by, and it just says UKC in someone's handwriting. There are no numbers or anything. The paper also has the name of the breeder, but that's about it.

I would ask them to see the UKC Registration Certificate. You might find the dog is registered with Universal Kennel Club and not UKC. If the dog is truly UKC registered, the owner will have a paper that states that.

Re:

If they do not have any other paperwork other than the pink one I mentioned in my above post, can we assume that this dog is not registered with any organization?

I mean, this pink paper is a quarter of a sheet of letter paper, and it looks like a photocopy of something you get from a kennel. Everything on it is hand-written. I could get a piece of paper and write the letters UKC on it, but that doesn't mean that my dog is regestered you know?

By the way, I really appreciate all your help on this issue. We've tried other avenues to get this information that you're providing and we haven't been successful, so thank you very much.

If they can't show you a UKC Registration Certificate, then yes, I think you can assume that the dog is not registered with us.
