In the late 70's I hunted with a treeing walker male that was out of a dog called "Licking River Tiger". From what I understood, Licking River Tiger was from around the Northern Kentucky area, just south of Cincinnati, Ohio. This hound was a layup dog deluxe, and could strike and move out on tracks that other dogs wouldn't even open on. He looked and sounded like a hound should. Just curious if anyone knows the breeding behind the Licking River Tiger dog and if anyone is still hunting that blood today. I have no idea what this male's mother was out of. One thing for sure, that old hound treed a pile of coons.

I think Ken Maynard (owned Burning Fork Casey) would be a good person to call about Tiger. He could probably answer all of your questions.

Tiger was owned by Tommy Crouch at Sharpesburg Ky. Ken Maynard owned a dog out of Tiger called Ken's Hustlin Tiger. Maynard won walker days with this dog I'm pretty sure.

im with you mr hill i would love to to own a hound today that hunted like the old blood take tracks as they came and when turn loose start hunting not run throgh the woods like they was on fire and into they next county before they strike a hot track and may have a coon and may not when they tree but im old school and still like to walk hunt so i like a walk dog where the new gen wants to sit on the tail gate and send a dog that never comes back get all this high dollar tracking equipment out and drive around get close as they can so they dont have to walk not bashing them but to me thats not coon hunting its dog hunting jmo

Does Tommy Crouch still hunt? Do you know of any Walker hounds of present day that have Licking River Tiger breeding behind them?

That dog sticks in my memory, it is rare you find them with the ability to run cold tracks but also consistently tree lay-ups.

Everything out of Tiger would tree. I hunted with several good dogs out of Tiger. Ricky Vice owned the Licking River Rock that Dan was out of. If memory serves me Ricky was Tommy Crouch's son in law. I may.be wrong about that. Tommy was a great guy, and so was Ricky.

if you haven't found the dog like you looking for ,give me a call ,got some walker pups from that kind of hunting stock..will work with u on the price.around 5 1/2 mths old big enough to start working,,would rip into a hide at 5 weeks old,,bred right from best of old bloodlines,,

what ever happened to the old finely blood the river bend blood the spring creek blood i know the blood is out there but are any of these bloodlines been bred back close or are they gone i would like to find some of this old blood up close to breed back in that way at the end of the tracks theres meat lol let me know what you think thanks

the problem with too much/too close to that blood was too much nose,,

those dogs could run tracks backwards faster than most of todays nitehunt dogs can goin forward,lol

that would put a stop to trying to stay close to the dogs when u couldnt tell which way they were going for 10-15 minutes,

too much walking for the nitehunters so they bred out the nose for more tree!!!!!

with the right blend u could have both,i spent lot of money raising pups till i got it the way i like it...

"early startin,nose and tree" = finleyriver X house blood = coondogs
