Ownership changes
In the past two months two buyers of puppies from me have had their spouse die and that spouse is a co-owner of the dog bought from me. They've asked me how to handle the ownership change. In both cases the purchased dog is a female and would potentially be bred in the future and with the deceased spouse's name on the papers it would create a problem registering litters since the papers are "and" ownership instead of "or". Is there a special form for such problems or do they need to contact UKC for assistance in person?
Hi Sally! That's a great question!
When a co-owner dies, the surviving partner can just fill out the Bill of Sale on the back of the papers, indicating that he/she is the new owner. The date of sale should be the date of death. Under seller's signatures, indicate that the one partner has died, and send a copy of the death certificate or obituary. The surviving partner should sign under seller's signature as well.
I hope that answers your question. And thank you again!

Yesterday, I received a UKC Registered Miniature Eskimo female. The previous owner gave me the registration papers, but did not sign the back. How can I switch registration to my name? The previous owners had to move which is why they had to give up the dog. I don't know the people who owned her personally. What do I do now?
Thanks for any and all assistance.
You will need to download the application to Re-Establish a Cancelled Record. I know this doesn't sound like the right form for your situation but it is. What you would be doing is swearing that you are the legal owner of the dog oand that no one else has any legal claim to the dog. You must also present the Registration Certificate.
