Minnesota Hunters

What's the hunting like around Cohasset, MN? My family and I are going up on a fishing trip to Bass Lake and I thought about bringing a dog a or two to hunt. That is if I can find someone to take me hunting or find some public ground. Any info is appreciated! Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I spelled it right. According to the information we've got Cohasset is 12 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.

I should have said we are heading up there in August. We've got bad enough weather around here right now there's no way I'm heading north until after a nice thaw. LOL

Yeah I was going to say your nuts to try to come up and hunt in this kind of cold. I will see what I can find out for you to go hunting with someone up that way. I will let you know.

Thanks

There's some guys that hunt up that ways, can't remember names really, but the huntings not that great or not near as good as southern to central minnesota etc....and there's wolves if that matters, but if you hunt, the campgrounds are usually good but you coming in the wrong time of year etc....

Tyler: I know the area very good and have been going up there since the early 70's. I just sold my place up there, it was closer to Big Winnie as i was on Lt. Ball Club Lake. Were trying to put our camper at Pincherry Resort on Big Bass Lake this coming year. Very good fishing lale and has about everything in it. Used to be one of the top bluegill lake in the state with many pound plus gills coming out of there that the DNR put a 5 fish limit on them now to try & bring them back. Can be tough to fish , many drop-offs and weedbeds but a very scinic lake. Leave your coondogs home! there's a few coon but you'd have a very hard time getting to your dogs if they ever treed one. That area is a jungle so thick and a taingled up mess and lots of bog swamps. Some places you might go for a few miles before you can find a road. Maybe and I said maybe the only place that I would even try to hunt is by Graind Rapids and shoot the dogs along the banks of the Mississippi River. If you hunt in the summer bring plenty of mosquito spray, a head net, and a dog that doesn't run bear or porkey's!!! Good luck fishing up there. Charlie Radtke
