Ivermectin Question
I know this question has been asked and answered about a Bajillion times but, what is the dosage for Ivermectin paste?
I thought it was .10 cc's per 10 pounds of body weight...I just wanted to make sure before I wormed the dogs....I had been using it then quit and I couldn't remember what the dosage was on it....

Not sure what the dosage is but be sure to have them rechecked for heart worms before you start up again.

I use cattle and swine liquid
I use the liquid cattle and swine injectable and give it orally. I did use the horse paste and found out it was way too strong even in a very small doseage. Dog was having a reaction and getting sick about every 2 months, going off his feed.
Cattle swine type, I give .2cc for a 45-75 pound dog each month. I worked the dosage out with my vet. We compared the dosage to the amount ivomec recommend in heart-gaurd pills. Been doing this for 10 years with good results. Bottle of cattle swine Ivomec is 40 bucks and lasts 3 years, expires before I run out. Have on average 4 dogs most of the time. Use a syringe to draw up Ivomec, I cut a piece of bread into 4 pieces and put .2cc on each piece, each dog gets a piece.
Hope this helps.

I know for sure that none of them have heartworms, or even other worms (intestinal wise) for that matter. I had been using Ivermectin before with no adverse reactions or irritations and it took care of fleas and stuff pretty good too. I'm pretty sure it was the .10 cc's per 10 lbs though. I also use the Pyrantel paste every couple months to take care other types of worms....

1/10 CC Per Ten Lbs of Body Weight , once a Month.
An Average, Fifty Pound dog, will require, one half of a CC.

I'm not being a wise guy..but 1/10th cc for 50lbs of body weight? If thats correct than a dog that required 1/2 cc would weight 250lbs. wouldnt it?
I've had 2 vets tell me 1/10cc per 25 lbs. of dog. I was giving mine 1/10cc per 10 lbs. and they both said that was way too much. Also, for blue dog people, my vet said that the reaction some dogs were having to the ivermectin was linked to the blue merle gene. So be careful.

My vet told me NOT to use the paste, that when you give it to a horse, you give the whole tube, but if you give a small dose to a hound you dont know if he is getting more Ivomec than he needs or maybe he is getting mostly fillers. He said use the liquid 1% for swine/cattle, give 1/10 of cc for each 10 pounds of weight.( 50# hound=1/2 cc ). He also said to mix with Coke/Sprite etc, give it orally. Good luck.......

I also use the liquid form, I pull .5 cc for 50pounds of dog and then pull the syringe the rest of the way full of water, this helps to keep the throat or vocals from getting burnt. It is by far the cheapest treatment for as many dogs you can treat with one bottle.
Dosages
The 1/10 cc per 10 lbs of dog is the most common dosage I've seen, but it's way stronger than Heartgard. Most dogs can handle this just fine, so I'm not saying not to do it, but if you give that dose you probably don't need any other wormers. If you are ONLY using it for heartworm prevention, and you're using other wormers for other parasites, you probably want to cut back.
Heartgard tablets for 50-100 lb dogs contain 272 mcg of Ivermectin (that's 0.272 mg). One cc of Cattle/Swine 10% Injectable Ivomec contains 10 mg (10,000 mcg). So if you use the 1/10 cc per 10 lbs of dog, you end up giving 5,000 mcg to a 50 lb dog, or about 18 times the Heartgard dosage. Now, this dosage is recommended for cows and pigs for parasite reduction, so it's probably fine in dogs, too (and lots of people do it). It's also the dosage I intend to give to my sheep. But we don't have a lot of parasite issues around here so I prefer to only treat for worms occasionally when one of my dogs shows symptoms. Since Ivomec is only used in the dogs for heartworm prevention, I can give them a MUCH lower dose.
What I do is dilute the Ivomec by taking 1 cc and mixing it in a bottle with 9 cc of propelyne glycol. This gives me a concentration of 0.1% (or 1 mg / cc, or 1000 mcg / cc). I keep this mixture in the refrigerator. Once a month, I pull out .3 cc and squirt it into a small portion of canned dog food for each dog. This gives each dog 300 mcg of Ivermectin. My dogs range in size from 45 lbs to 90 lbs. So their dosage is very close to what they'd be getting if I bought them Heartgard tablets.
One last word of caution: I know this has been said before, but it's worth repeating. NEVER give your dog Ivomec Plus. It has other medication in it which is fatally toxic to dogs. There is NO safe dosage of Ivomec Plus.
