Best Tires for a Truck?

It's time for some new skins for my 87 Toyota and wanted some opinions of the best tires to use. I thinking either an aggressive all terrain or a mud tire that has some descent road manners. I do get in some nasty spots, but also use it as a daily driver. Let me know what you think.......

Also, if anyones got some 31x10.5x15's for a good deal?

I really like the BFG all terrains. 31x10.5 R15 will run you around $150 a tire.

if you going to be driveing it alot on the road, i think you would be wasting your money buying "mud terrain" tires. they dont last nearly as long as an all terain. there are plenty of good all terrain tires out there that will get you through most anything you throw at them and still not be breaking the bank every six month because you need a new set.\

Every set of BFG's we have had tend to pack up with mud right away and lose all traction... Goodyear Wrangler's are nice tires.

I have BFG all terrains on my Dodge pick up and have put around 18,000 miles on them and they are still doing great and have plenty of tread. I have been in some deep crap and they have pulled me out. They are a bit pricey, but darn they look good!!

I drove and hunted out of toyotas for 18 years. In my opinion oversizes tire are a waste of money. You lose power, gas mileage, alot more wear and tear and I couldn't really notice any difference in the mud except my truck got a lot dirtier and mud would get thrown in the cab. Save the money from the tires and buy a good winch.

They do look good, but thats about it.

Those are the rim sizes that came with the truck. It came with michelin road treads on and they give no traction in slick situations. I need some help in spots that should be drivable.......

I've had good luck with COOPER TIRES.

Got over 70,000 miles on two different sets of all terrain tires.

How are the coopers in the mud? I've had coopers on other cars and was satisfied with them. What model are they?

I run the Cooper Discoverer H/T. Gets lots of mileage and run good and quiet on highway. No problems in the mud. I know that everyone has different opinions.

BFG All Terrain. Best tire for all around use Ive ever found. I log for a living so my truck gets used a LOT in bad conditions. Just this week we got a 540 John Deere skidder stuck on a hillside and I actually pulled it out with my TRUCK! I did have enough chains to get the truck on a tar chip road, but still that says a LOT for tires! I usually get anywhere from 35 to 50K miles on a set too, so mileage is FANTASTIC as well!

I'd go with the cooper tire. I have them on my truck now. I have over 40G on them and they are still doing good. They bite pretty good as well when you get in a bind. They aren't near as hard on the pocket book either... BFG's are WAY to high for me.

I cant believe nobody mentioned Michelin! I had them on my last truck, put 80,000 miles on them and they still have a ton of tread. I never got stuck, rode nice on the highway. I could not beat them. Just bought an 07 Ram and I'm thinking of pulling the Bridgestones off and going to Michelin again. I need to see what Michelin has in a 20" tire.

31 x 10.50 Mud Kings. They as well as any mud tire and clean out really well.

Do whatever you want, but I used to work at a tire store and have seen them ALL. In my opinion and from what I've seen, go with a Kumho or Summit. They both are inexpensive and are excellent tires. I've got a set of Summit Trail Climber c/t on my ranger and they PULL in the nasty stuff and have excellent road manners. Kumhos are great too, I've had a set of them.
Cooper makes an excellent tire as well, but they changed the a/t to an atr and i don't like the new tread design. Like I said, this is JMO but I have seen them all.

well seeing as how i make cooper tires here in albany ga , i would say cooper has not gave me any trouble , i have been satisfied with them in the mud and on the road , but i can tell you this when i had my toyota i had bridgestone m/ts on it when the truck was totaled , after my truck was adjusted i found out after 20000 miles on them tire only 1/32 of an inch had been worn off of them ....they was quite on the road and awsome in the mud ..... to be quite honest with you if i was not working for cooper i would ride on bridgestones............ cooper does offer many styles of lt tires from highway to super aggresive ...

bridgestone duellar at hands down are the best all around tire made that is why they are leading the at market right now they have the revos out that are the number 1 tire i dont honestly think they are better than the regular ones but if you got the extra money why not i have tried em all from generic to super swampers to dick cepek and wouldnt trade my duellers for any of em and i spend ALOT of time off road
