BMC vs Leopards

I can't speak of the difference between the 2. I hunt BMC and the BMC will trail good on tracks they run. They don't run a cold track like a hound does but will tree layed up game and are good treedogs. I don't think the BMC is as open on track as the Leopard Cur as most all BMC are tight mouth on track. I hunt my BMC on both Coon and Squirrels.

I know some guys that hog hunt with all breeds of dogs, curs and hounds. And I have also done my share of hog hunting too, and all the BMCs I've ever hunted with were lazy. They would bay on a hog, but only after another dog went out and found it. I'm sure that not all BMCs are that way, but I've seen too many that were lazy, that's why I'll never own one. JMO

a good leper cur is hard to beat on a coon track, most hounds couldn't hold them a lite to run by, they are quick, and open pretty good on track, the black mouth cur is semi silent to silent, and can really move a track they can smell. the leper cur has a better nose of the two. most of them have a big hound type mouth.

Sounds like the BMC you have been around were herding stock. I have L.H. Ladner Blackmouth Cur's and they are definately not lazy.

I agree with this 100%. I also have 3 from the Ladner line and mine hunt all night! Mine don't bark on trail at all and learned not to trash after the first time of trashing. They know when the hog is caught as well. Definitely not lazy! "herding stock" lol

bmc

well i just got a male bmc to start working i have some leopards that are very hard to beat. this is the first bmc for me i have only had him for 6 weeks. it looks like to me that a leopard has a thicker coat than a bmc. in iowa that coat on a leopard makes them have a big advantage on other dogs. ask me in a year i hope to be able to tell you what i learned. one dog is not a good comparison so it might 2 or 3 to get a good comparison.

Give me a call any time and I will answer any questions you have concerning the Chub dog. I think I know as much about him as any one alive.
As for BMC's if you are asking, your lep. either has not started yet or is not worth fooling around with any more. They don't all make it, but a good percentage of them do and in some crosses a great percentage of them make good to great dogs.
For your country and the game you are after, the BMC's will not hold a candle to the Leopards. There are exceptions but looking for them would be like saying that you are only going to shoot albino cougars from now on. Your going to do a lot more hunting than shooting.

Dan....

as far as I can tell Chubs gona make it. Back in November there was a add in the local trader, (when I first posted this) a guy was looking to get rid of his ''papered" BMCs, and I was thinking what the heck the price was right(free). The more I looked into them, the papers looked fishy, dogs looked way to big to be curs, so long story short I passed on them. I'll give you a call later this afternoon anyway.
