TWBFA Breeders Cup Challenge...
Why all the negative scores and scratches... even the plus scores weren't much... Weather, location... just odd.
can only
speak for myself but the full moon seem to effect the coon movement. my dog only treed once the first night and he was split on a den tree the other dogs had a coon, after that we looked up several other trees without seeing anything. the second night my dog had two trees but couldn't squall because of dog tracking. but we never even seen a coon sitting up any where that second night!!

tw
that would make for a loooooooooong night!
I think alot of it has to do with hunting nothing but pups less than two yeaers old. Pups that age are very likely to look sorry when hunting with 3 other pups they never seen before. It is called "immatureity". The pups that look good both nights at this hunt are destined for much greater things in the future.
lady luck rode with me both nites.
we scored on 5 coon fri nite and 6 on sat nite.
Maybe I missed it, but where was this hunt held at?
I see there were 28 dogs hunted in this. How does that compare to previous years?

Rushville, in...about 50 miles east of Indy. 2001-30 dogs. 02-05 around 18-19 dogs. This year 27 dogs.
i hope
they take it back up to wyatt. i didn't care to go clear to ohio to hunt and then get shot at, if it wasn't for the guide getting lost and running into me out in the middle of nowhere i think the 1hr would have got me in the second drop!!

In my humble opinion, that hunt is a waste of time. My cast had a question last year and the MOH said it wasn't a UKC licensed hunt so we should work it out ourselves and go hunting. Well, it got worked out allright. Drove 3 hours one way and wasted motel money on that!! Never again.
I have heard that the board of directors is considering moving it around to a different location each year. Doubt that would gain any entries. Changing the date to the Thursday of Walker Days would be the most effective way of increasing entries but they don't want to do anything that could take away from the Lee Crawford. In the end, the biggest failure here is with the Associations member breeders declining to nominate litters. This was suppose to be the breeders hunt but they have shown almost no interest in it. $25.00 to nominate a litter might as well be $2500.00.
A few like Dan, Beller, Tom L have nominated litters evey year since it started. Three breeders ain't gonna make it work.
jim
i think it would have more entries if they had a junior and senior division like 1-2 and 2-3 yr. olds i have only had one litter since it started that was over 13mo. old the day of the hunt i think if they were eligable up to 36mo. they would get more nom. and entries. the three pups we brought this year was 12.5 mo.old but would be 2weeks to old next year. i bet alot of the pups under 18mo. would enter again if there was a 2-3 yr class.JMO

Dan, I have said from the beginning that the age limit should be 30 months. That way every pup born would have a shot a somewhere between 18 and 30 months of age. I'm picking up a pup from Jerry Moll in a few weeks. That pup was born in September.. Will be 13 months old for next years hunt, 25 months (too old) for the following year. Obviously, that one won't get nominated. Any pup born between April and October will never have a chance after turning a year and a half old and not many will nominate a pup who's only shot is before it is even 1 1/2. But the Association has purty much written it in stone that they will never allow dogs 24 months or older. Every year, half the Walker pups born have birthdays that, as a practicle matter, make the ineligable. In 6 years, I have had one that was over 18 months.

There was never a requirement that pups be litter nominated. It just cost $25.00 more ito perm nom if the pup was not litter nominated. The year my Jodi pup won it the same person was the breeder and sire owner. He didn't litter nom and threw away over $500.00 because he chose not to spend $25.00 to litter nom. Sound familiar Joe????
litter nom.
is the best 25.00 ive ever spent, the year danIV got 3rd i got over $200.00 for owning the sire and another $200.00 for owner of the dam.

Wasn't Joe the breeder on the pup that took 2nd this year? What did that pay, around $1500? Lets see....10% to the breeder.... that would cover the cost of litter nominating 6 litters!!!. Sorry to pick on you Joe but success makes a better target.
Yeah Jim...rub it in!
Course, out of all the pups that I kept, I would have ended up paying up several of them, then felt the need to go to the hunt, and I would have come home having spent $1,000.00 to get that check for $150.00.....you've seen my luck in action before!
