Ruger 10/22 question

I got a good deal on a Ruger 10/22. It's the stainless, carbine model -- it really is a nice piece. I would like to hear some input from 10/22 shooters as to which ammo and magazines work the best for you??

Thanks in advance,
Marc

any copper plated 22's have always worked good for me, and the original ruger magazines work the best.

I would stay away from remington .22 ammo, a lot of misfires or duds.

thanks guys

I'm thinking that I'll buy a couple extra, standard, Ruger mags. I really do not see much need for more than 10 rounds in a gun. And, I will stick with the copper plated, higher end ammo.

Thanks for the input.
Marc

i have some of the 25 and 30 round clips for mine but normaly use the 10 rd clip for shooting the coon out as i use a scope and 1 to 2 shots and the coon is coming down, most of the time on the first shot..
i carry the bigger clips with me in case some coyotes come in close enough to see their eyes ,then it will be sounding like wwIII,,lol,,
if you ever empty one of them 25 shot clips ,DONT grab the barrel to stand it aganst a tree or something,,,OUCH...lol.

ps.. i use the C.C.I. minnimag hollowpoints for serious shooting..
they have been known to bring whitetail deer to people's freezers too...

I won't use anything but factory Ruger cliups but here's a very handy way to double capacity to 20 rounds. I have used one for years. www.elmfg.com/ruger.htm

you can also make this gun easy into a silencer ,without working the barrell muzzle, just ask around, I won"t tell you how but been around for a while.

drill 5- eighth inch holes just ahead of chamber, rout a channel underneath the holes, fill with steelwool, seal. now you got a rifle that shoots long rifles with about as much noise as a cb.

I've got a 30 round but don't use it. The Ruger 10 round has never given me any problems.

i wore the spring out in a couple of the 10 shot clips when i first got my 10-22 back in the early 70's ,still got the same gun and still shoots as good as when i got it

when the spring gets weak ,take the allen screw out of the clip and give the spring another twist, put the screw back in..should be able to shoot another few thousand rounds thru it then...best gun i own....

mine will shoot any ammo i put in it.

however ive bought several of them mega mag's and ive never had any luck with them.

so now i got about 7 of the factory clips and just keep a couple in my pocket.

i still use the bigger clips, but they mess up. and ive tried them on several of my guns. i just haven't found a good mega clip for the 10/22.

From my experience the 10/22 Ruger is the most accurate gun I have ever seen. I have to admit though the Remington shells do seem to have alot of duds in them. I like Federal or CCI. I got a bolt action then a semi-automatic bull barrell for targeting. The factory clips work best for me.

I use the Remington Hornet rounds. They are great for everything. Squirrel, Coon, Bunnies. I got a box of 500 the other day for $2.85, gotta love boneheads who miss mark things.

The only Remingtons that I have had any problem with are the ones in the 500 count boxes that are just thrown in.

You just got one of the most customizable guns on the market. You can make that thing look like anything you can imagine and there accurate too. I have one that can put 5 shots thru a dime at 30yrds. with the CCI Stingers. I have probably 30 different types and brands of ammo here from the dirt cheap stuff to the $8-$10 a box stuff and the CCI Stingers out shoots them all in mine.

Posted by Tightline on 10-12-2006 04:31 AM:

been shooting CCI Stingers all my life.

if i had to pick just one, that would be the one for me.

but i shoot so much i buy the cheep stuff and it does ok.

i got a nephew and 13 year old daughter who can shoot as good as anyone i know.

we shoot about 500 rounds a month hahahahaha of the cheep stuff.

Thanks y'all for the good info

It is a nice little gun, and I plan on it being part of my hunting life for years to come. It does seem to be one of the most "trickable" pieces around but, I'll probably leave mine pretty much stock.

Thanks again,
Marc
