Yotes are changing yet again

Have noticed around here that the coyotes are now starting to mimmick the barking of house dogs. I know yotes have always had a yipping bark to them but this is different and is very hard to distinguish from that of a yard mutt. Have talked to a few others that hunt and they have started noticing it too. I informed a guy the other night at the house that that was no house dog he just heard bark but it was in fact a coyote. All this is something myself and those I have spoken with here locally that has seemed to really start evolving in the last few months. Buddy of mine said they started barking one night and he thought it was just someone elses dog out in his field. His pit went to investigate and was promptly given a good but whippin by yotes. Didnt kill his dog but it wasnt for lack of trying, he actually ran them off his dog before they could finish the job. Says they still come to fields edge a couple times a week and start "house" barking but his ol pit dont play that no more. I have personally witnessed this house barking take place twice and neither time did I have a gun handy. It has gotten to the point round here in the last month or so that you will hear them barking more so that screaming squalling yodeling sarrinade you normally hear. Just wondered if anyone else had noticed recently or had always had it and they are just now learning this trait around here. They are also getting much braver in that they are actually doing their business next to the fencerow in my back yard (capitalizing in the smorgasborg of bunnies in my backyard I figure) which is less than a 150ft from my backporch. what other unique ways are the yotes in your area adapting or changing their habits to fit "their" needs.

Our Yotes

Here in MA they are Big. They have been pretty bold for a long time,stay off our property SO far... The other night when we returned from an evening out the hounds were still out in the pen. They are house dogs so they come in at night.... But we left them out rather than having to crate the BnT. I thought, Listen to the three of them.... WAIT, we have two! Then my son said it sounds like 3 hounds baying.... The yotes were sitting on the other side of the stonewall, about30 feet from the dog pen, and they were baying with the hounds. So far they still haven't gone after our chickens who go into the barn at night....but are not Locked in. I think the local orchards and the pet cats keep them full so far. We have two kennels of regular dogs within earshot... so I couldn't say wheter the yotes sound like house dogs...but that night they sounded JUST like the coonhounds! Glad we don't set our hounds loose around here...I think yotes WOULD be a problem. Our local foxhunt club(on horseback) dies hunt the yotes and keeps them running from hounds.

You think they might be crossing with dogs? Just curious? I've seen some around here that looked almost like German Shepherds. If not for the eyes I would have thought they were regular dogs. Me and my sister both have been up close and personal with a rabid coyote. I sure don't want a repeat performance. It took two up close shotgun blasts to finsih him and he was still trying to get us and both our dogs an 80lb. cattle dog and a big chow. Amy

I'll tell ya what there a gettin around here this year & that is a set of hand cuffs from me.For a number of years I would catch 25 or more on our place each winter. This year they are in deep doo doo cause I have the time & it's operation "FUR SHED". I enjoy goin to war with them scrongy,sneekin,hidin in the weeds critters!"YEP",gonna be a lot less around here I'ma thinkin!!
